Easyjet are a company that sell really cheap flights direct to the public, and they have a large and growing network. This is my experience of my first trip with this Budget carrier when I went to see Paddys_back
In Belfast this weekend. He’s an excellent fellow and has a lovely family…shame about his pool skills mind!

Bookings

This is nice and easy if you have a PC or have heard about Easyjet before.

You can phone them on 0870 6 000 000 to book over the telephone, but beware they charge you extra for speaking to a real person.

Or you can use the Internet and visit there web site at www.easyjet.com . They offer a £2.50 per flight per person discount for booking on the Internet. I believe Easyjet reservation staff, actually earn a set amount per passenger they book rather than a set wage. So make sure they do not bully you into booking something that’s unsuitable. Another thing to watch for when asking for availability, if that sometimes it offers a day either side of the date you originally requested. Make sure you double check and book the right date! Prices quoted do not include tax and service fees for using the airports and these will be added when you book. If you pay be credit card they charge a fee of £3 so its better to use a debit card if at all possible.

When you book you will receive a confirmation number and you should take a print of the page along with you to the airport. If you book over the phone there will send the confirmation out by post.

I paid £12.50 one way for a Belfast International to Edinburgh one way flight. The price included tax and service charges. I got this fare by booking 10 weeks a head, and if I could have been more flexible I could have travel for free and just paid the taxes.

Checking in

Easyjet recommend you check in at least 2 hours before departure even for domestic flights. As ever time I have seen an Easyjet check in desk the queues have been massive. A lot of people are checking in massive amounts of oversized baggage, bikes, musical instruments etc so it takes longer to check people in so I will recommend you to be there in plenty of time. They do not operate hand baggage only aisles so even if you have hang baggage only you still require two hours. I have heard about people who have checked in for domestic flights 45 minutes before departure and been refused boarding because they are late. Perhaps its because the flight is oversold, if you turn up late this may be an excuse to get out of paying compensation to you.

To check in you need your confirmation number and a passport (or other approved photo ID) even for domestic flights. Easyjet are a paperless airline and do not issue ticket or normal boarding cards. When you check in you receive a plastic boarding card which has a number to show what stage you will board. The earlier the number the better chance of getting a good seat.

Boarding

People with special boarding needs are allowed to go first and board the aircraft. Next are people that hold boarding cards 1-30, then 30-60, 60-90 and then the rest. If you are travelling as a party. Make sure you check in early to get a low number boarding card so you can get seats together. Both the rear and front doors on the plane are used for boarding and this makes the process quicker. Easyjet do not pre allocate seats and are basically like a bus service….first come first served, however there is no standing room!.

Planes

Easyjet only operate Boeing 737 aircraft and they have 18 737-300s and 12 newer 737-700. The planes are all under 5 years old making it one of the youngest fleets in the world. They hope to operate 48 aircraft by 2004. The aircraft I was on was the newer 700 series and was immaculate. The staff were friendly and offer us refreshments on demand only as it was such a short flight. Space is the same as any other 737 aircraft I have flown on have, and the seating was 3 plus 3. The interior and exterior is decorated in the mandatory Easy Company orange so its handy to take your sunglasses.

Conclusion

I feel like I am a kid back in school writing a conclusion!!!. At the price you can pay with this airline if you book ahead you should not complaint what the service is like as long as it is safe. It’s a first class way of getting from A to B cheaply, even cheaper than trains and ferries in some cases. They are good enough to offer you a refund of the ticket price (Not Taxes) if your flight is delayed more than 4 hours. However they will not transfer your ticket to another airlines to get to your destination so it will be a case of just waiting. I am however going to rate stars comparing Easyjet to other carriers I have flown on and not the price itself.
