As you look at the low-cost short haul airline from a distance and take in all the points you can see the bright orange name and website, the small aircraft looking somewhat cramped and uncomfortable, miserable check-in and cabin crew wearing a mixture of a grey and orange uniform and the low costs suggest lack of luxury.
Which I may say is what I originally thought of the airline, I booked online via the easyjet website, which I will add is very easy to navigate around, and it was my last choice because it was the only flight available from Gatwick to Inverness for the date that I required. I was enitially disappointed.
I checked in and my first impressions seemed to become into reality and the tired, effortless, and miserable check-in staff processed my boarding pass and circle the gate number. Soon enough it was time for boarding and I headed to the boarding gate.
Easyjet have organised their own boarding system where they sort passengers into groups A B C D and they are called up by letter and you board the plane, rather like the traditional version of rows 1-10 but EasyJet's own version.
As soon as I boarded the aircraft, I was greeted by a friendly cabin crew member, who had a smile on their face and obviously enjoyed her job as she checked my boarding pass. The plane was clean and tidy and not the cramped and uncomfortable seats I was expecting.
The legroom was adequate and was all that was really necessary on the hour and fifteen minutes flight. The seats were not exactly luxury but weren't cheap and taky as their prices are. The safety demonstrations were in-depth and thorough and once again the crew were immaculate and smiling as they were running through the emergency procedures if we were to have an emergency landing and if the oxygen in the cabin failed.
Due to the short duration of the flight in-flight meals were not provided but onboard there were snacks, drinks and the usual refreshments available on a standard flight. There were a variety of snacks ranging from chicken tikka salad which was about £3.50, the usual cheddars and shortbread and maltesers and chocolate. As we all know that onboard prices are high for drinks, snacks, duty free and general refreshments, but these seemed to more expensive than flights I have been on in the past.
So even if the chicken tikka salad is appealing, fresh and smells indulging, I wouldn't recommend paying £3.50 for it!
The captain kept us informed throughout the flight and I felt very safe and comfortable in the environment, even though it was a standard economy class flight. I would not however fly EasyJet if they decided to operate Longhaul flights as although they certainly impressed me on this flight I would not risk flying an eleven hour flight to the Maldives or Caribbean with them unless they drop their onboard prices and they improved there general appearance as an outlook because as I said, I was not particulary thrilled to book a flight with them.
But everyone gets proven wrong at some point in their lives and I think this is it!! Overall a very good flight, I was extremely impressed and as a frequent flyer and a keen linguist I will certainly try to use EasyJet again for short haul flights when available.
Definite recommendation for a short flight. But don't be indulged by the good looking food, although it is tasty, it is expensive!
