I have just returned from a trip to Hong Kong during which time I stayed at this hotel (check-in 01 Aug 2007, check-out 05 Aug 2007).

Having previously stayed at the Nathan Hotel and the Pruton Prudential Hotel in Hong Kong, I can safely say the Eaton Hotel is far better than either of these two.

The hotel is conveniently located near Jordan Station on the MTR subway system. It is also only a short walk from the A21 bus which offers return journeys from the airport for 55 Hong Kong Dollars (HKD).

Although located on Nathan Road, its entrance is somewhat concealed, and its main entrance appears to be on a side street off the main road. However, the hotel is clearly marked from the outside with big lettering on the building visible if walking southwards down Nathan Road (towards the Harbour).

Once you arrive, you are greeted by the porters who will take your bags and arrange for them to be taken up to your room once you’ve checked in. An elevator attendant will then usher you into the elevator and send it to the correct floor for check-in.

The check-in process was simple enough and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. We were issued room key-cards in a little wallet which helpfully provided a map of the area in which the hotel is located. The check-in for regular guests takes place in the main reception area on the fourth floor. Here there is also the hotel bar and restaurant/coffee shop.

The rooms we had were on the 13th floor, and were very nice. The twin beds were comfortable and adorned by white linen and a duvet cover. There were 3 pillows, one large, one medium and a body pillow.

The cupboard could comfortably hold 2 suitcases and was furnished with a set of 3 drawers. There was a minimal amount of coat-hangers, but I’m certain if you called down to the front desk, they would have happily sent up some more. We requested an iron and ironing board be sent to the room and they happily obliged.

The room also contained a 2-seater couch and a smart desk. The desk had a phone and fax machine as well as a desk lamp. It was also equipped with a pen and a pad of notepaper.

The bathroom was clean and well kept. It looked in very good condition. The sink unit had drawers, a shaving mirror and a hair dryer. There were sockets for electric razors too. The hotel also provided the following complimentary toiletries in the bathroom: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, razor, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, shower cap and a comb. A phone was also provided in the bathroom, hence saving you from rushing out into the main part of the room to answer a call.

The shower unit was separate to the bathtub, although the bathtub also had a showerhead unit fitted to it. Above the bath there was a retractable washing line should you wish to dry any items.

A kettle and some sachets of tea/coffee are also provided should you wish to make a brew.
The television channels available in the room included CNN, BBC World News, MTV, Cable Soccer Channel, and a variety of foreign language channels from countries in the surrounding region.

On the bedside table, there was a small unit which controlled the following things in the room: Lights, Air-conditioning speed, Do not disturb indicator, Make up room indicator and alarm clock. There was also another phone located on the bedside table.

The hotel also provided a dressing gown and a set of slippers which was a really nice touch. Other nice touches include the delivery of a complimentary newspaper every morning.

As for facilities, the hotel has a business centre, a more than adequate gym and a rooftop pool. The pool has a constant depth of 1.2 metres. Unfortunately, the limited floor area up on the roof mean there is only a handful of loungers (approximately 8). Although the walls surrounding the pool area mean that the majority of the pool area remains in shade throughout the day and there are not many spots in which to sun-bathe.

As a hotel, I can highly recommend the Eaton. The staff were really helpful, the location is good, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the price is reasonable as far as Hong Kong hotel prices go. It’s definitely worth considering this hotel if you are travelling to Hong Kong any time soon.

I stayed at the Eaton hotel in Hong King as part of a 2 day trip to China for my Honeymoon in May. I liked this hotel too and the view from the glass lift from the top floor was fantastic! xx
