Nervous flyers all you need to know

Advantages: This may help you to understand what is going on when you fly
Disadvantages: a little information may not help !!

The mysteries of flying or flying for the first time, probably account for a lot of Flying phobia’s…it is usually the feeling of being out of control and in the hands of someone else that contributes to this fear, and also not understanding what all those sounds whilst on board are or mean, so in writing this account I am attempting to dispel in very basic terms (so experienced aviators don’t have a go at me here thank you!!!) the ...

Cattle Class Uncovered

Advantages: Often very cheap
Disadvantages: Can be cramped but airlines such as SriLankan are very good.

...to tell you about is Economy Class, commonly referred to among businessmen as cattle class. We’ve all been there but is it that bad? It’s the overcrowded, dirty, cramped cabin squashed in at the back of the plane where the air hostesses daren’t venture in to. It’s dark, noisy uncomfortable and you want to avoid it as much as you can. Or that’s the common thought of Economy Class, isn’t it? History of Economy ...
...can’t tell you is why Economy is at the back. I suppose it’s because it takes longer to get out, and you’re nearer the noise of the wing. And also, if you’re stuck in the middle, you get your in-flight meal last. Not that you were going to eat in anyway. A Typical Economy Experience… I am going to do two examples here, so you can actually see the difference in Economy Classes. The first example is SriLankan Airlines, ...

THE HARD TRUTH.

Advantages: Cheap transport to wonderful destinations
Disadvantages: uncomfortable.

Lets face it we all hate cattle class and we all wish that everytime we took a flight we could fly first class. Well for your average Joe Bloggs its not going to happen, so I suggest we make a choice stop complaining and try to make fun of it or don't fly. Very harsh I know but here's some comments that may or may not make it easier: Every time I am wisked away to some wonderful destination I remember that it is only in the last 20 years that it ...
...a time you had to be rich or you had probably saved for that once in a life time trip and the rest of us just took our main holiday somewhere in the UK or if lucky we took a ferry and a drive to europe. Airlines have made it possible for everyone to get out and see the world and yes they could make it that little bit more comfortable and I am sure things will always get better but we are all in business and I for one dont want the cost of flight ...

Know your routes ...

Advantages: Good fares .. More room to stretch out ..
Disadvantages: Strange food or no alcohol ..!

How many of us have thought of flying Air India to Toronto? Kuwait Airways or El Al to New York ..? Aeroflot to Australia ..? Its not just the "big boys" such as BA or Virgin that fly to these destinations and hundreds of other places. The advantage of flying less well known airlines to very well known destinations are price, more availability at peak times and not least, lots more space to stretch out (most of the time). Researching different ...
...of hassle so my advice is to find yourself a good old fashioned travel agent, you know the sort, cup of coffee on the desk and a battered old airline route guide to hand. Access to computerised airline reservation systems is an added bonus and will save them phone calls to the individual airlines concerned to check availability. These guys can tell you if Air India is making a stopover in Rome en route to Bombay or how about flying Kuwait Airways ...

No room aircraft.

Advantages: Few if any
Disadvantages: Too many for comfort

I often wonder if airlines are obsessed with profit that they do not take into account the safety and comfort of their passengers. Many years ago a number of people were killed in a fire aboard an airplane at Manchester airport and yet look at planes now. There has been much in the news about DVT and airlines show the video but that is not good enough - what is the point of the video if you are so cramped you cannot move. Anyone over 5 foot would ...
...no chance. When are airlines going to realise that most people would rather pay a little more for the ticket and have some comfort. Apart from the comfort aspect, the safety aspect appears to have been forgotten. It would be almost impossible to get out of these planes as there is just no room. If alternate rows of seats were removed, or if several rows over the entire craft were removed then the remaining seats could be moved to give leg room. ...

Stop all the Handluggage

Advantages: Less handluggage
Disadvantages: better security

In View of the recent tragedy in America the airlines are pleading with people not to take too much hand luggage. I have to say that seeing what people expect to take on board an aircraft is a security nightmare, bags and more bags with shopping ,small suitcases, weekend bags even bin liners. It is wrong to get angry with airlines when they ask you to take one piece of hand luggage and then bring on board a weekly shop as well. So I hope we are ...
...a safe flying environment and stow our luggage when we check in and not expect to do a mad dash with it all under our arms to save time. Having said all that I have been very glad that within Europe we take the security checks more seriously than they did on internal flights in America, but I am sure that will now change. Safe and Happy travelling to all of you. ...

Singapore Airlines Economy Class

Advantages: Excellent staff, superb entertainment system, good food
Disadvantages: Seat pitch no better than other airlines

Singapore Airlines are an award winning airline and it\'s easy to see why. The staff are well-presented, multi-lingual and only too willing to help out in any way they can. The seat pitch is similar to every other airline, don\'t expect any additional comforts in economy class. The inflight entertainment system is second to none; lots of recent and classic movies to choose from as well games and an excellent variety of music albums of all genres to choose from. The food is typically Asian in style with some extra luxuries such as ice cream common for dessert. The choices are presented on a stylish menu typically thirty minutes to an hour before serving. Singapore Airlines are regularly punctual with minimal delays meaning that any connections at Changi are made with plenty of time to spare. ...

Avoid BA economy class

Advantages: It will get you where you want to go
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, lousy food

My experience of BA has been unhappy. The last time I flew with them was to Milan, economy class. The outward flight was delayed half an hour because one of the passengers hadn't turned up, so that person's luggage had to be taken off the plane. When we did get off the actual flight was OK, but the attitude of the hostesses left a lot to be desired - they seemed mostly bored, moody and unwilling to be very helpful. The food was appalling: a cold piece of chicken roll and a stale tasting salad cream. At least the sweet was edible. When I arrived at Milan I found that my luggage had had its strap torn; I was severely annoyed to put it mildly. This alone cost me £20. The return flight was no better, with the hostesses handing out a catalogue of typical 'duty free' items available to buy for prices no cheaper than from your local high ...

First Class Economy

Advantages: food, service, in-flight entertainment
Disadvantages: none at all

I can't afford to pay the thousands of pounds it costs to fly first class long haul, so for the family holiday this year to Hong Kong and Singapore we booked economy class through our travel agent. From the minute we stepped on board the cabin staff were extremely helpful - they were all Chinese but as we came to expect from almost every Hong Kong resident we met, they all had impeccable English and treated all the passengers excellently. It would be hard to imagine an economy seat any better than on Cathay. From the in-seat TV and gaming rig provided on all planes as standard to the in-flight food menu! They actually give you a choice of what you want to eat - usually of very good quality too. In addition, if you need sandwiches or ice cream throughout long-haul flights, just ask and they will get you some 'courtesy of the captain ...
