I often wonder if airlines are obsessed with profit that they do not take into account the safety and comfort of their passengers.
Many years ago a number of people were killed in a fire aboard an airplane at Manchester airport and yet look at planes now. There has been much in the news about DVT and airlines show the video but that is not good enough - what is the point of the video if you are so cramped you cannot move.
Anyone over 5 foot would be cramped and if you are taller then you have no chance. When are airlines going to realise that most people would rather pay a little more for the ticket and have some comfort.
Apart from the comfort aspect, the safety aspect appears to have been forgotten. It would be almost impossible to get out of these planes as there is just no room. If alternate rows of seats were removed, or if several rows over the entire craft were removed then the remaining seats could be moved to give leg room.
Why should people have to pay thousands of pounds for basic comfort? Surely all passengers should be able to expect some degree of comfort, we don't want luxery, just the pleasure of being able to stretch out legs and even the ability to carry out the safety drill - how can you adopt the crash position when you cannot even bend your head to your knees? It is really time the CAA started to issue orders not make suggestions, about the state of the planes but then if these people travel in club class, first class or business class they obviously don't care about the majority of the passengers, and yet it is these passengers who are the backbone of the industry but these are the people who are worst treated.
We should all start making complaints and then perhaps things would change, why be complacent and then look on in horror when things go wrong. You cannot even be guaranteed an extra leg room seat by paying more as with some carriers if you do not book a meal you cannot get a seat with extra leg room because you are all treaated like lepers and put at the back of the plane with no choice of seat - so you have to eat a meal you don't want and pay £15 each way to have some form of comfort. It really is not on, flights are expensive enough so lets have comfort.
You would be totally interested in profit only if you were an airline... no tax on the fuel you use, no VAT on buying airplanes... Being able to ride rough-shod over any environmental concerns over pollution or noise...
