This pleased me as I knew Malton was not too far away from one of my favorite places, Whitby, more so that if there was time we would be going on from the Camp to Whitby to end the day out. Having not heard of the camp I wanted to know more of what to expect when I got there so ... ...but not now. I enjoyed my visit so much that I have been twice since.
Eden Camp is just off A64 from York to Scarborough at Malton, North Yorkshire at the junction of the A169 to Whitby and about 15 miles from Castle Howard and north of Stamford Bridge ...

...I suggested we go to Eden Camp.
LOCATION & ADMISSIONS
Eden camp is situated off the A64 between York and Scarborough and the A169 Malton to Pickering Road, North Yorkshire, so being around 20 miles from Scarborough it was very easy to get to.
The car park is free and has room for around 400.
Out of all of us I was the most excited about going, when we approached the entrance my youngest son (3) perked up when he saw a Spitfire Mk1X suspended ... ...for group bookings and the Eden Camp allow school parties which many schools take advantage of.
THE HISTORY OF EDEN CAMP
Eden Camp was built in 1942 as a Prisoner of War Camp during World War II, It housed mainly Italian POW who helped built the huts that the later German POW were to be housed in, from 1944-48 German POW were held in the camp.

We had never heard of Eden Camp till June 2008 when on holiday in Yorkshire.It was a super visit with the noise and smell of the wartime ecperiences.If interested in war/history this is a must.

...Have you ever sat in an air-raid shelter, while bombs are dropping all around you? Or been in a U-Boat during a depthcharge attack? Or joined a Wellington crew over Berlin at the height of a bombing raid? I have experienced all of these in a single afternoon at a place called “EdenCamp” which is situated in Malton, NorthYorkshire. It is a unique Museum where you will experience not only the sights and sounds, but also the smells of those unique, dangerous, times. Tableaux make full use of moving mannequins, and the skilful application of lighting, sound, and smells add even more realism and transport you back to the war years. EdenCamp was awarded the English Tourist Board Excellence Award 1998, for best visitor attraction in the Country.
