Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel, Amsterdam

Blue Square Hotel- Apparently near, yet so far.

Advantages: Lovely bedrooms, large shower, bar staff friendly, luggage room to leave bags.
Disadvantages: Too far from city centre, transport costs to hotel very dear, area undesirable.

My partner and I recently visited Amsterdam (in late May for 4 nights) and as I was so busy with work, left it up to him to book the hotel and take care of the details. We have been to Amsterdam before and the hotels we usually stay at had no vacancies, so he booked us into the Blue Square Hotel, and proudly showed me the documents he had printed off and the website. "Looks lovely, oh it says it's close to the town centre- within walking distance- can't wait!" was my reaction. Out of the airport we trundled a few weeks later with our cases and got into a waiting taxi. He drove us to the hotel. It took a LONG time. As he was unloading our cases with us he said "This is not a good area for you." I asked him what he meant by that. "Is not a good area and is too far to walk to town, you will have to use trams. Review of Blue Square Hotel, Amsterdam

Fun, friendly, budget hotel in a great location

Advantages: Great location, near to some good nightlife
Disadvantages: Area is noisy, not recommended for children

Arriving in Amsterdam a few hours later than planned is never good, especially when you have not booked a hotel in advance. Luckily, one of my friends had recommended this hotel to me, and they had a room available that we could have. The Rembrandt Square Hotel is situated about 10-15mins walk from the Central Train station. We got a taxi there, but I would advise against this. Amsterdam seem to have some of the highest taxi costs that I've ever seen. The 5-10 minute journey (through some minorly busy traffic) cost us 30 euros. I'm not quite sure how the cost was justified, but I suppose we can be thankful that we got there safely when it was already quite late at night. Hotel for the tolerant

Advantages: cheap, good location
Disadvantages: don't ask for an upgrade

The Best Western Eden Hotel is, unusually for Amsterdam, situated in an idyllic location next to one of the canals that decimate the city. It is within walking distance of many of the squares, flower markets and a short tram ride away from the city centre. There are plenty of places to eat and drink close by and we (me + wife) spent a couple of nights trying out the bars back in 2004. Hence, be prepared for sketchy memory and vague references to things half-remembered. To save time, my opinion of this place is mixed and juggles a balance of cheap and weird. The Outside ********** As mentioned, the hotel sits on a canal - quite a wide bit of canal where a couple of smaller ones join.
