My, how it's grown. Edinburgh airport was a small easy to handle airport that you could pass through in a matter of minutes. Now it is all grown up. Being run by BAA this mostly involves being made to walk unnecessarily long distances in order to pass rows of shops.

Unless you think an airport should encompass a shopping centre, then I don't think the new airport offers any major improvements, although I suppose they can handle more flights and cater for more passengers. For me the delight of the old airport was how little time I could spend in it. One time I was delayed in returning. As I drove up the approach road I could see my plane on the apron and passengers were already boarding. I parked my rental car in the adjoining car park, checked in my bags, deposited the car rental keys, passed through the security checks and still boarded the plane in time. You couldn't do that now.

So, on the plus side there are shops. All the usual suspects including a well stocked Dixons and a 'Books etc'. Once you pass through security, shops sell at VAT free prices to all passengers, both arriving and departing.

British Midlands business class lounge is about eight times bigger than previously.

Outside the airport is a new covered jetty housing buses and taxis. Prominence is given to the city centre express bus. In an update to the first opinion, the taxis are new London style Cabs, only difference is they're white.

It’s a good medium sized airport. But I still prefer the old one.

Airports are not destinations, the less time spent in one the better.
