Cockburn Street... sounds painful
Review of Cockburn Street by TaraLothian

Advantages: Some really different clothes, some great cafes, an amazing music shop, great people, nice shoes
Disadvantages: Expensive, some shops seem exactly the same

Firstly, how to get to Cockburn Street! If you need exact details, you may want to get a map, but I can give you a rough idea. I'm sure you know where Princes Street is, right? Well, it is VERY near there. Edinburgh Dungeon, Scot Monument, it's really close to all these places. Sorry I can't give you better directions, I don't live near the place at all unfortunatley , but if you know where Princes Street is you have a good chance of coming across ...
...be honest, I could spend many a happy hour trotting around there picking up some wacky clothes or accessories. The shops may not be everyone's cup of tea; Most of the shops are full of spiky leather chokers and men with more piercings that face. And although some of the clothes are great finds, it's all really for "gawfic" teens. Most of the clothing you find are fairly un-tasteful, and if you're looking for some good quality punk/goth clothes I ... Read review

Useless shopping
Review of Princes Mall Edinburgh (Shopping Centre) by John_severn

Advantages: Central Location, Princes street, Train station, Bus station.
Disadvantages: Nothing worth going there for

...across the road or on Princes Street. On top of that the selection in the shops is very small as each outlet is way smaller than is found elsewhere. Recently all the shops have become main stream outlets, but a few years back there was a great selection of shops which you wouldn't see elsewhere and boutiques. I remember watching people making candles and gadgets and the Jelly Bean shop, now all gone and replaced with Fast Food and other main street ... Read review

Please do not waste your time
Review of The Edinburgh Dungeons, Edinburgh by sherman_lives

Advantages: Next to none
Disadvantages: Too numerous to mention

Do not be tempted by the prima facie allure of the place induced by an expensive advertising campaign. It's terrible. I cannot "un-recommend" this attraction in strong enough terms. Do not chance it. Take my word for it. THIS IS NOT A QUALITY ATTRACTION. I shall share my experiences in any event: Two 16 year-olds in unconvincing ghoulish make-up will greet you at the door before the somewhat more terrifying experience of the ticket prices (£7.50 ...
...a warrior will be presented. The tackyness will become apparant when you see the mock-ups of historical items. Combine this with a "ride" which i am sure covers an impressive distance of ten yards (done craftily in the dark and in a foot of water so as not to reveal this) with the realism of the whistling wind taken away by the whirr of an industrial fan. combine this with an over-priced gift shop and the fact that you or someone you know will be ... Almost by accident; a history of Princes St
Review of Princes Street by dobieg

Advantages: Handy for busses
Disadvantages: with the exception of Jenners, nothing special

Princes street became the main shopping centre for Edinburgh almost by accident. The architect James Craig won a competition in 1766 to lay out the plan for a 'new town' to be developed to the north of the overcrowded and unsanitary city (now known as the 'Old Town'). In it, he sought to lay out in physical form the embodiment of the British constitution - a central avenue running east/west, named 'George Street' after the King, which ran the length ...
...named 'Princes Street' (It's actually princes in the plural) after the heirs to the throne. Intersecting the three roads at right angles were a number of short roads; 'Castle Street' 'Fredrick Street' and 'Hanover Street' Between Princes Street and George Street runs a narrower road, of much lower class buildings, which for the main part is 'Rose Street' - the mirror image between George Street and Queen Street is 'Thistle Street'. Why, then, ... Read review

Almost Paradise
Review of Cramond Village, Edinburgh by clanmac4

Advantages: A delightful part of Edinburgh
Disadvantages: Current unfinished development

...a small fortress called Cramond. Cramond in old Roman speak means “The Fort on the River Almond”” Cramond Village is situated on the estuary where the river Almond enters the Firth of Forth. It is a small suburb of Edinburgh, about 5 miles away from the city. I lived in Cramond between the years 1977 and 1982, I visited Cramond from 1968 onwards, mostly because my Grandparents lived there. I have very vivid memories: ~~ Racing ...
...raced alongside the esplanade to Cramond Island where upon arrival I would gaze up at the old World War 2 gun emplacements, I would turn my head west and view the splendour of the Forth Railway Bridge, looking north I could see Pettycur Caravan Park sitting on that far away hillside in Fife, to the right I could see the “Gas Works” jutting out on a peninsular away from the city! ~~ Sitting on the golden sands with my younger brother ...
