Cameo Platinum Card
Review of Cameo Cinema by SideTiePanties

Advantages: Mind enriching films-tastic
Disadvantages: Slightly dirty old men attend the Arty ones

...The great thing about the Cameo is that, not only can you nurse yourself with a hair-of-the dog remedy without being chucked out, but you don't have to worry about your lack of money if you buy a Platinum Card. The Platinum Card is 16pounds ,12pounds for students, and gives you a years' worth of free Sunday Double Bills and Club Screenings, concessionary pricing and a monthly club magazine. You pretty much make your money back in a month because ...
...the films are great, so even that would be a bargain. They tend to screen American Independent, World and Channel 4ish films, rather than just taking on any old Hollywood Blockbuster, like the other cinemas in Edinburgh. The films are great, you can get tipsy if you really want to and it's nice and cheap - What's your excuse for not being there this Sunday. ... Read review

Something very different from the norm
Review of Rose Street by dobieg

Advantages: Specialist shops for specific markets
Disadvantages: not always stuff you want or need

In a nutshell, Rose Street is Edinburgh is very similar to Dublin's 'Temple Bar'. Rose Street runs east-west, between and parallel to Princes Street and George Street The physical relationship to the two larger streets is entirely reflected in the businesses which have established themselves there; hotels, bars and restaurants at the edge of the business district, centred on George Street, and smaller independent specialist shopping establishments ...
...What you find on Rose Street are a slightly incongruous collection of shops, including designer Jewellers, hard-core climbing and outdoor equipment suppliers, record shops, designer clothes shops and a couple of interesting 'fancy goods' shops which offer a range of tourist tat, and novelty items. Add to this a couple of sandwich bars, Internet cafes, sushi bars, and newsagents and it becomes clear it's more geared to 'local people'. Rose street ... Read review

The Meadows - Edinburgh
Review of The Meadows by AJ26

Advantages: Nice place to walk or play sports, a good open space in the city
Disadvantages: Can get busy in summer, not a good place to visit in the rain!

**** What are the meadows? **** The meadows is basically the name given to a large park on the south side of the centre of Edinburgh. It is a large flat open area of grass and is popular with all age-groups. It extends for approximately 58.4 acres and is less than a mile away from the centre of town. The meadows backs on to what used to be the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh which was Edinburghs main and oldest hospital. This has now been moved to ...
...have a wonderful outlook over the meadows. **** The History of the Meadows **** The Meadows were originally the site of Borough-Loch which was one of the main water supplies for the Edinburgh’s Old Town. Over the years the Loch changed names it was the Borough Loch, South Loch and also Stration’s Loch. Long ago the loch was used for washing animals and also used by many people for dumping goods in the water despite it being a water supply (some ... Read review

poetry with a wee dram
Review of Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour, Edinburgh by squibby

Advantages: see a grand city listen to poetry and have a wee dram or two
Disadvantages: can be cold and wet in the later months of the year

Being a avid fan of most things literary I found this tour around Edingburgh to be most facinating and shold be compeling to anybody that enjoys poetry and writings from over the borders. Allthough I had the missfortune of going on my tour in mid November and the weather was bitterly cold and wet so a good time to partake in the tour would be between june and september. The tour it self lasts for about three and a half hours and is very good value ...
...own drinks so don't forget your wallet or you will die of thirst. The tour takes you all over the grand city and the poems and stories recited differ from tour to tour so if you enjoyed it as much as I did you will be back again in the not to distant future as will I, there is some thing for everone on this tour even if you don't like poetry that much you can still go along with freinds for a stoll a natter and a few wee drams and fully enjoy yourself ...
