...I have lived in glasgow for 15 years now and can honestly say it is one of the nicest towns if not the nicest town in britain. how can i make this judgement?, you may ask, well after travelling all over britain i feel i can comment on the state of their towns. Glasgow has it all, the nice people, the nice buildings, the public transport, and the nightlife. Anyone who has been a glasgow night club can tell you that the atmosphere is always brilliant. In my mind glasgow is the capital of scotland because edinburgh is not even a patch on glasgow and her people. I cant comprehend why edinburgh is the capital because basically it is a dump....

...Although not the largest city in Scotland (the largest is Glasgow), Edinburgh is the Capital city. Although quite tranquil compared to other Capital Cities, Edinburgh is a place that has a lot going for it. Tourism is a major thing in Edinburgh, a walk down Princess Street will convince you of that, the vast majority of people that you pass will have non-Edinburgh accents. The city skyline is dominated by the Castle which sits high on a hill in the Centre of town. I will not dwell on the range of attractions that are on offer since there are other areas in Ciao that will give you more details of the individual attractions. What I will say though is that Edinburgh can compete with any other city when it comes to the range of attractions. The recent opening of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh has led to a great deal of interest...

Advantages: Lots to see and do Disadvantages: None really
...Edinburgh is a fantastic city to visit for everyone, whether you are shopping, clubbing or just want to visit Scotland's capital.
Edinburgh Castle is a definite must for any visitor to Edinburgh, although it is a little expensive to get in, you can spend the majority of day there if you wanted to (which makes it a little cheaper on the pocket!). I would advise people to visit Edinburgh Castle in time for the firing of the one 'o' clock gun (at 1pm!) as this is almost a window on the past (if you have a good imagination) of what it would be like to be beseiged in the castle!
Once you've visited the castle a stroll down the Royal Mile brings you to the tourist shops, the wiskey tour and the kilt shop, however for a slightly different experience, try one of the underground city tours. 'Auld Reekie's' tour is one of the more fun ones...

Edinburgh Capital Hotel is located five km from the Edinburgh Airport. Situated four km from the Edinburgh Castle, this hotel is also convenient to Princess Street, the Botanical gardens and Edinburgh Zoo. The hotel is ideally situated for business and leisure travelers to the area and the city center. The hotel exudes a welcoming atmosphere that emphasizes friendly and hospitable service. Many sections of the property afford magnificent views of the Pentland Hills and the Firth of Forth. Edinburgh Capital Hotel has excellent facilities as well as comfortable guest rooms and public areas. The guest rooms are beautifully presented and equipped with modern equipment for your comfort and convenience. The hotel\\\'s friendly staff will make your stay enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble for the well-trained staff as they work tirelessly to meet your requests.
Advantages: Most of the attractions are close to each other and the public transport to others is excellent Disadvantages: Can tend to be a bit over expensive
...Although I'm proud to be Scottish I don't believe that Edinburgh really paints a true picture of the real Scotland, although in saying that it plays a very important part in Scottish history and is definitely worth a visit for architectural and historical reasons.
Not the prettiest of Scotland's cities but it still has a lot to offer visitors. The Edinburgh Festival every August, and particularly the Tattoo are well worth a visit and it does go a long way to prove that Scotland really is a welcoming place for all kinds of cultures. The shopping is also very good, if a bit expensive but I suppose all capital cities have this cross to bear.
You cannot visit Edinburgh without visting the Castle which sits in spectacular prominence in the heart of the city - to me this is the most scenic part of Edinburgh city as it looks almost majestic...

...I moved to Edinburgh about a year ago to follow my heart and work! At first is was a bit daunting being so far from home, but Edinburgh soon worked its magic. The city centre doesn't really feel as if you are in a countrys capital, more like a friendly big town. The cobbled streets and turreted buildings add charm, character and warmth to the city. There is tonnes to do if you are a visting tourist, with Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, Dynamic Earth and numerous other museums and galleries. Of course there is the obvious festival time in August when the entire city is mobbed by tourists from all over the world to see various exhibitions, films and comedy shows.
Definitely worth a visit...it will probably feel like home for you too!...

I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people.
