THE CITY ++++++++ Edinburgh is one of my favourite city. A RICH City. No wonder why it attracts tourists all the time.
THE CASTLE +++++++++++ The magnificient appearance and the history of it makes it worth visiting. The view of the city from the castle is marvellous.
MY EXPERIENCE ++++++++++++++ We had been to Edinburgh in the month of March 2007 for a weekend. It was an amazing experience. We booked the hop-on hop-off tour bus. It is worth doing that way (provided you have not gone by drive). We bought the Grand tour ticket which includes entry to Castle, Royal Yacht Britannia & Palace of Holyroodhouse and unlimited travel on the tour bus for 2 days. We paid around 35 pounds and it is worth. Since we booked the tickets online , we collected the actual ticket from the Bus station near Waverley Bridge. No waiting in Queue to get into Castle. Castle was the first place we visited in edinburgh. The external view is stunning and have it captured in your camera.
ACTIVITIES IN THE CASTLE ++++++++++++++++++++++ A demonstration of the things used by soldiers is given at a scheduled time by a man dressed up as a soldier. It is worth watching. It is lively and useful too. We went around 11 A.M. The schedule will be displayed inside the castle.
Performers costumed in Scottish style is noteworthy.
You can see a group of bagpipers and drummers taking a march inside the castle.
CAFE +++++ There is a cafe near the entrance of the castle to refresh
GUIDE ++++++ Both Audio guide and Guided tours are available. Guided tour has a specific timing. We did not take any guide. We had enough information about the castle to go around.
It takes around 1 to 2 hours to go around the Castle.
The high street straight down the castle is worth seeing. The rich historic look is astonishing.

Advantages: Lots to see, close to some great shops and other attractions. Disadvantages: No wheelchair access, but I suppose they can't really fit it out with lifts and escelators with it being a building of historic importance.
