Step out from the crowds

Advantages: Beautiful countryside, Freedom and Fresh Air
Disadvantages: none if you like Nature

...was very much involved in the "rat race", running to catch the underground ….mind the step…..… .racing to get my train and doing my journey back home standing and swaying about in a smelly, sweaty, overcrowded compartment. I was more and more fed up with the rat race, the competition, the shoving and the pushing and decided to quit my job, sell my house and see where the wind would take me. A call from my daughter in Scotland decided of my future. ...
...I could see then were the very stern looking buildings, grey skies, sheep, sheep and more sheep…. baaaaaaaa……….and people I could not understand….not for me. But for some very strange reason, which until today I cannot explain, the removal van headed towards Scotland!!!! My daughter asked me to come and live with her. She found a large house near Hawick, in the Borders, on top of a hill uninhabited for the last 20 years!!! No water, no electricity…great ...

Edinburgh City of Dreams.

Disadvantages: Only if you are disabled or in a wheelchair.

...of the day was spent getting to know the locals. Mixing with the many visitors, and taking some wonderful photos, and still not having the time to see it all. The following morning I awoke really early, refreshed and happy to start my morning in the park, before returning to the airport. It was a beautiful day, the sun highlighting everything around with a soft glow. Edinburgh is gorgeous. I wandered around taking photographs enough to fill an album, ...
...I sat with a coffee watching the people go by. Time to go. The bus to the airport was waiting above. I got on it and was soon queuing to board…..Except, I was almost a whole hour too late. My flight was already almost touching down in Newquay. What had I done. The magic of Scotland had lulled me to stay one more day… Only one flight a day, of course. My partner had not yet left home for the airport. He would meet me tomorrow. The price of transferring ...

...would plan days out to Edinburgh and I used to get so excited. She'd pick me up very early in the morning just after Breakfast and we'd take the train through. We'd arrive at Waverly train station and go for a drink and doughnut or cake before we hit the shops. Then we'd go onto Princes street and shop untill we dropped until lunchtime. Then, we'd go for lunch in either John Lewis Cafe, or another department store cafe, or we'd find a nice little ...

Edinburgh - it Stinks

Advantages: Lots to see and do, the city contains some stunning buildings
Disadvantages: The roadworks, the tramworks, the bagpipes!

I have been living in Edinburgh now for almost five years, and in that time I have gone from loving the place to desperately wanting to leave. I am, however, marooned here for the foreseeable future, due to a combination of factors, the most obvious one being sheer bad luck. We moved to Edinburgh from London for several reasons, the main one being my husband was working in the city at the time. Our daughter was due to leave her special school and ...
...For several years Edinburgh had been portrayed as the best place to live for quality of life, and my husband, having worked in the city in the past, was ready for a change – so we made the decision to move 400 miles north. So what’s right with Edinburgh? The thing that always impresses the visitor to Edinburgh is the architecture and the history. Taking a walk in the Old Town is fascinating as you imagine how things were hundreds of years ago, ...

Livin' in the Burgh

Advantages: Lots to do, lots of places to eat, gorgeous city, love the nightlife
Disadvantages: Good old Scottish weather I suppose and I do dislike the busyness of city life

...made up my mind that Edinburgh university was my first choice university. Three years later, whilst I might have been a little disillusioned about university life I certainly wasn't disillusioned about Edinburgh... *~It's like Sim City up here!~* So in the current economic climate you may possibly want to stick about in Old Blighty as the value of the pound is enough to make you sick. I do suggest a trip to Edinburgh should you decide to stay. ...
...up with a little inconvenience, Edinburgh is still architecturally gorgeous and the best sites tend to be scaffold free. I write this after spending a day waltzing around in the sunshine. I love grand architecture of the old buildings and the fact that the Old Town, particularly that surrounding the Royal Mile, retains the layout of bygone years. The Royal Mile is the prime tourist street that runs all the way up hill to the Castle. It's quaintly ...
