Reviews of Edinburgh Hotels »
It wasn't as good as I expected, am I aiming too high?
Advantages: Nice senery, nice swimming pool, not too far from Edinburgh, nice surroundings to walk around! Disadvantages: old hotel-a bit 70s, old cutlery(not old style, but used - you can tell obviously!)
My husband & I stayed for 2 nights in Kalzie suite in late sept/oct 09- is claimed by the hotel official website as 1 of the luxury room of the whole hotel, no espcial offer+cannot book from internet.- it was to celebrate my 30th birthday and to have a relaxing days out of the city.
The suite is located on ground floor, where near the swimming pool/ leisure club, dining room, which was handy for us.
There's a private corridor to get into the 2 ... ...are closed loudly, could even hear from inside the room, although there are not many people passing the corridor at all, so it was fine.
The living room in the suite....nice decor, big victorian window, nice view (no matter cloudy, misty/ sunny!), size isn't as big as I expected from the official website photos.
There's a nice modern fire place- didn't use it, cos it smells, don't know when was the last time it was being used. Sofa and chairs are ...

A lovely Scottish hotel
Advantages: Central location, attractive building, good customer service Disadvantages: Shower had seen better days - otherwise none
...a single room at the Cairn Hotel through lastminute.com. I paid £44 for a single room for one night. I have to admit that I didn't check whether it would have been any cheaper to make the booking directly with the hotel, rather than through an intermediary website. Once I'd booked, I started to feel a little apprehensive about staying overnight on my own in a strange hotel. Lastminute told me that the Cairn Hotel was a 2 Star hotel and "a non smoking ... ...taxi pulled up outside the Cairn Hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. It had a very grand exterior. It was certainly a period property anyway and the photo accompanying this review doesn't really do the hotel enough justice. The facade looked well-maintained which helped to reassure me as I approached the entrance. The taxi from Waverley Train Station cost me around £4.50 (October 2008) and it is within reasonable walking district to get to the delights ...

A great hotel to stay at when visiting Edinburgh
Advantages: Plenty to do and see, within walking distance Disadvantages: None
...book a room via the Holiday Inn Express website, as there are often cheaper rates available. Also I am a member of their Priority Club Rewards scheme which gives you points for every stay, which you can save up and redeem for free nights at any of their hotels. I have had a few free nights over the years, and am about to redeem another. Being a member of this scheme also entitles you to priority check in , extended check out times, comlimentary newspapers ... ...you via email. It is completely free to join and a great scheme. All details can be found online at HiExpress.co.uk. I last visited in February where I paid £35 for a double room for myself and partner - bargain! I always find that these hotels are clean, modern and comfortable with Continental Breakfast included in the price , you really can't go wrong. This particular hotel is situated on Ocean Drive, Leith, which is an area of Edinburgh which ...

Definitely British. Not so much of the Royal
Advantages: Conveniently located. Friendly reception staff. Spacious room Disadvantages: Tired. Unfriendly breakfast waiting staff. Dated
...online led me to the Royal British Hotel, conveniently located immediately opposite Waverley train station, right in the centre of Edinburgh on Princes Street. I booked online at www.royalbritishhotel.com, and found a B&B rate of £75 if I was willing to book and pay in advance. I was, so I did. The hotel looms over the railway station. The building itself looks quite old, though the entrance looks very 60s - concrete and glass facade. Reception isn't ... ...there is one of the conference rooms), but rather on the first (and a bit), thus necessitating a stair climb. This wasn't an issue for me, as I only had an overnight bag. I believe there was also a small lift, but I must admit, I didn't really pay much attention, my eye instead being drawn to the stairs right in front of me. The decor around the stairs and reception area was clean, if a bit tired. Climbing the stairs brings you to reception. Again, ...

Comfy Bed but no Baked Beans for Breakfast!
Advantages: Comfy bed, nice enough room, good location Disadvantages: The restaurant and the lift
...my fault! Being a Best Western chain I was reasonably confident that it would be acceptable. Booking
I booked online and it was all very quick and simple. The cost was £270 for the two of us in a double room for two night’s bed and breakfast. Not cheap (next weekend my three nights in Blackpool is less), but it is Edinburgh, and it was a good price compared to some of the hotels I was looking at! However, perhaps I should mention that was ... ...it was used fraudulently to pay for a mobile phone top up in Slough and a £60 bouquet of flowers among various other attempts….and then I had to go through the hassle of speaking to people in India to get it sorted out – I was not impressed. Anyway, more about that in a minute.
