Travelodge Edinburgh Central - a Bit Battered at the Edges
Advantages: Good location, reasonable value if you can get lower rates Disadvantages: A bit shabby in places, can be noisy
There are several Travelodges in central Edinburgh and St. Mary’s Street one is not the one I originally booked to stay in. Checking the Travelodge website I noticed that a new Travelodge was due to open on Rose Street and while this was not the closest Travelodge to the venue for a concert we were going to, it was over £20 a night cheaper, a saving I thought was worth the extra few minutes walk. Unfortunately a few weeks before our stay we received ... ...the Rose Street Travelodge had been delayed. We were also told that we could stay in one of the other Edinburgh Travelodges at no extra cost, provided a room was available. As a result we were able to stay at the more conveniently located Travelodge for a not too bad rate of £62 on a Saturday night; the promotional price of £19 a night is advertised heavily throughout the hotel but I think it would be unlikely you’d find that rate for a Saturday ...

" A Point in the Right Direction!"
Advantages: Close to the city centre. Amazing and unique food. Disadvantages: No children accomadated.
POINT HOTEL IN EDINBURGH (34 Bread Street)
My mum and I take several short breaks away together every year, just us two, to spend some quality time shopping and gossiping!
Usually when choosing a hotel the first thing we check is if it is suitable for children. However this time as my own child wasn't with us, we decided we didn't want to have anybody else's children to deal with either!
The Point Hotel does not accomadate children at all and ... ...noticed upon arriving at the Point Hotel was that there was no parking available which to us would have been very inconvenient if we had drove down. Thank goodness we hadn't!
COST
The holiday was for two adults as I mentioned and we stayed from Friday 5th January 2010 until Sunday the 7th January. We booked one room for the two of us and had the choice of a Continental or Scottish Breakfast. My mum booked the Scottish whereas I chose the Continental. ...

It wasn't as good as I expected, am I aiming too high?
Advantages: Nice senery, nice swimming pool, not too far from Edinburgh, nice surroundings to walk around! Disadvantages: old hotel-a bit 70s, old cutlery(not old style, but used - you can tell obviously!)
My husband & I stayed for 2 nights in Kalzie suite in late sept/oct 09- is claimed by the hotel official website as 1 of the luxury room of the whole hotel, no espcial offer+cannot book from internet.- it was to celebrate my 30th birthday and to have a relaxing days out of the city.
The suite is located on ground floor, where near the swimming pool/ leisure club, dining room, which was handy for us.
There's a private corridor to get into the 2 ... ...are closed loudly, could even hear from inside the room, although there are not many people passing the corridor at all, so it was fine.
The living room in the suite....nice decor, big victorian window, nice view (no matter cloudy, misty/ sunny!), size isn't as big as I expected from the official website photos.
There's a nice modern fire place- didn't use it, cos it smells, don't know when was the last time it was being used. Sofa and chairs are ...

A lovely Scottish hotel
Advantages: Central location, attractive building, good customer service Disadvantages: Shower had seen better days - otherwise none
...a single room at the Cairn Hotel through lastminute.com. I paid £44 for a single room for one night. I have to admit that I didn't check whether it would have been any cheaper to make the booking directly with the hotel, rather than through an intermediary website. Once I'd booked, I started to feel a little apprehensive about staying overnight on my own in a strange hotel. Lastminute told me that the Cairn Hotel was a 2 Star hotel and "a non smoking ... ...taxi pulled up outside the Cairn Hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. It had a very grand exterior. It was certainly a period property anyway and the photo accompanying this review doesn't really do the hotel enough justice. The facade looked well-maintained which helped to reassure me as I approached the entrance. The taxi from Waverley Train Station cost me around £4.50 (October 2008) and it is within reasonable walking district to get to the delights ...

A great hotel to stay at when visiting Edinburgh
Advantages: Plenty to do and see, within walking distance Disadvantages: None
...book a room via the Holiday Inn Express website, as there are often cheaper rates available. Also I am a member of their Priority Club Rewards scheme which gives you points for every stay, which you can save up and redeem for free nights at any of their hotels. I have had a few free nights over the years, and am about to redeem another. Being a member of this scheme also entitles you to priority check in , extended check out times, comlimentary newspapers ... ...you via email. It is completely free to join and a great scheme. All details can be found online at HiExpress.co.uk. I last visited in February where I paid £35 for a double room for myself and partner - bargain! I always find that these hotels are clean, modern and comfortable with Continental Breakfast included in the price , you really can't go wrong. This particular hotel is situated on Ocean Drive, Leith, which is an area of Edinburgh which ...
