Prestongrange Dining
Advantages: Opulent, flavoursome, hedonistic, marvellous Disadvantages: Having to leave it when you could stay forever
...AA and more. The opulent Prestonfield House is simply one of Edinburgh and the UK's finest destinations for fine dining, afternoon teas and hotel accommodation.
Friends of mine recently arranged a celebration tea there and were impressed by the ambience and lavish levels of service. They sampled the 'Tea House' , set in a formal rose garden within the grounds. Privacy was theirs as they indulged in a heady selection of teas, coffees, sandwiches ... ...champagne.
Prestonfield offers a fine selection of eating options. Rhubarb is the eccentrically named fine dining venue set in two over the top Regency rooms. It is the latest venture of James Thompson whose 'The Witchery' with it's rather Gothic setting close to the Castle and romantic candlelit tables, is of course an established Edinburgh dining legend. Expect to sample the finest Scottish ingredients, such as succulent Angus Lamb.

A tabernacle of terror
Advantages: Atmosphere Disadvantages: none
...what is essentially a Dr Jekyll museum.
Well recommended. This has to be my most favourite pub in the UK. If I lived in Edinburgh I wouldn't be out of this place. It won't appeal to everyone but tough. It appeals to like minded people so that makes it absolutely perfect. ...

Dissapointing
Advantages: good food, Disadvantages: bad booking system, unfriendly staff
I'd heard a lot about Guilianos and had read many positive reviews however I was disappointed. My girlfriend and I decided to go there after her sister recommended it. It was the middle of the Edinburgh festival so I wasn't sure if we'd get a table but we did. I booked a table for 7pm on their online booking system but when we turned up at the restaurant at 7 we were told we'd have to wait a few minutes for our table. A few minutes turned into 15 ... ...get seated straight away. We were taken to a table with no cutlery or glasses or anything. We were then left another 15 minutes before we were even asked if we'd like any drinks. We'd been looking at the menu for half an hour so we of course knew what we wanted. The staff did not seem interested in us at all and we had to really fight for their attention as they seemed to be only watching the large party of 20 they had in. On the positive side both ...

rubbish pub grub
Advantages: meat was nice Disadvantages: plenty
I went recently to this chain in Edinburgh and I wasn't happy with it at all. I think the only thing that has made me not give is just 1 star is the fact that the meat was actually very nice.
I was starving when we sat down at our table but it seemed to t ake forever to get served. Nobody knew what we were supposed to do- did we order at the bar? did we just go up to the carvery? Did someone come t our table? We had no idea at all. We tried to ask ... ...about ten minutes of us just sitting there looking blank we eventually managed t get served. The alternative menu to the carvery was very poor- about 5 options 3 of which being salad! We went up to the carvery and this caused problem number one- do we all go up together or does one person stay and 'guard' the table seeing as we had drinks and bags there. If we left one person behind then the queue was so long that we'd end up eating separately. Not ...

A traditonal Scottish Restaurant
Advantages: Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere Disadvantages: expensive, can get busy
Mackenzies Restaurant is set in a cottage style house and is in the heart of Colinton Village near Redford Barracks. You go right into the village and just opposite the traffic lights, there is a row of shops and MacKenzies is right at the top!
MacKenzies is named after henry Mackenzie who is was the Edinburgh Born writer and Lawer who lived in the cottage next to the restaurant!
The restaurant is a brightly yet dimly lit restaurant! As you go ... ...one.
The menu in Mackenzies depends on when you visit. last night they were doing a Christmas Menu for £25.95 per person. This included a starter, Main Course, Pudding, and coffee and mince pies and little oranges. The choices were a wide variety and there was melon, wild mushroom tartlet, soup and Salmon. The main courses included Fillets of Lemon Sole, Traditional Turkey and trimings, Duckling done in a honey and orange jus, steak and A vegetable ...
