Edinburgh´s Hogmanay - New Year

Advantages: great atmosphere, excellent performances and not expensive
Disadvantages: outdoors in the rain and lots and lots amd lots of people

I decided that I wanted to do something different for to usher in 2008 as opposed to the usual lurching around from bar to bar paying unwarranted entrance fees and hiked up prices for drinks whilst we await the inevitable countdown to the new year that is the normal annual celebration. Its that time of year now when you need to decide what you are doing for New Year if you don't want to stop local. Thought I would get into the spirit of the time of year and write a review on Edinburgh's Hogmanay street party - one of the best new years eve parties in the world ... although the fireworks were cancelled this year so if you did go hopefully reading this won't depress you too much! ...only ever been cancelled twice and to be honest I still had a brilliant time even when the fireworks were cancelled because of the wonderful atmosphere created there. Advantages: Edinburgh is pretty
Disadvantages: Scotland is not very warm, the street party was a mess.

I went to Edinburgh for Hogmany 2004-2005. What a mess. This year they tried to limit numbers to the street party by selling tickets through the First foot Club (though believe locals could get tickets for free) - the First Foot Club forces you to buy a years membership (about £20) and gives you free things like a beanie and a badge, when really all you want is the ticket.
