Advantages: large selection of conference rooms for businesses Disadvantages: no entertainment for those not in a conference,
...I stayed at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center, Edmonton, for 18 days in October. The stay was not a comfortable one. The check in counter was lined up upon arrival, and always appears to be lined up. The Elevators are ODD. You never know what will happen when you get in one when it finally shows up at your floor. The beds are hard. I was put on a waiting list for a fridge and in the 18 days never received a fridge. The wireless internet was unstable, sometimes allowing me to hook up, sometimes shutting down in the middle of an email. It advertised as wireless but I had to use the cable the majority of the time. There is only two washers and two dryers (that take up to two hours to dry one load), which seems inadequate for the number of rooms in the hotel. The staff at the front desk and the restaurant are somewhat unprofessional...

Advantages: very helpful staff Disadvantages: 20 minutes to downtown
...YEG is located south-west of the city of Edmonton, approx. 20 minutes form the downtown core. Arrivals are on the second floor, and luggage pick up is on the main floor(arriving from Toronto). Pay telephones are near the luggage pick up. Staff were very attentive to my needs. There are several levels of parking less than 50 feet away. An international airport, flights can connect to nearly any major port worldwide. Signs are clearly marked, it is quite difficult to get lost. The taxi fares are decent, perhaps $30 canadian, but shuttles are also available at lower cost. Because I was in quite the hurry, I did not have the time to search for restaurants or cafes in the airport. If you find this at all helpful, please feel free to let me know. Thank you....

Advantages: Clean, good transport, Canadians Disadvantages: The *Deep* Midwinter
.... I noticed last time I was in the Edmonton visitor information centre that the Varscona was shown as a “High end” hotel, but this doesn’t seem to be reflected in the rates. It’s certainly very nice, and last September cost CN$200 a night for a suite, but when you consider that £1 = CN$2.5 I think that’s a damm good rate. Three big rooms, each of which would put a standard UK hotel to shame. Two TV’s, Bose CD/Radio combination, complimentary buffet breakfast, and an odd thing, a cheese and wine reception every evening in the concierge suite to which all the hotel guests are invited. This has led me to strike up conversations with people from all over the world, especially as there seems to be no limit to the amount of wine supplied. This is free by the way.
The Varscona has the distinct advantage of being on Whyte St which is the “hip...
