The temple dedicated to the God Horus.

Advantages: A beautifully preserved temple.
Disadvantages: Can get very hot and very crowded with tourists.

Temple of Edfu. The great temple of Edfu is situated on the West bank of the Nile River in Egypt. It was built on top of an even more ancient temple between the years 237BC and 57 BC during the time of the Ptolemaic Dynasty and the reign of Cleopatra. Edfu was an ancient city of about 60,000 people and it was believed that it may have been a major site for people setting out on their journeys into the desserts. It is the best preserved temple in ...
...is the second largest and best preserved temple in Egypt. The story of Horus the Falcon God, It is dedicated to the God Horus. Horus was considered a Falcon God of the Sky he was also considered as other Gods too and there is some confusion of who he was as different names were used to describe the same person. Horus represented life form of the God and Osiris the afterlife. He was also known as he represented the Sky the Sun God, The right eye ...

World-class diving on our doorstep

Advantages: Good visibility, fairly cheap, huge range of destinations
Disadvantages: Boats can be crowded

I'm not an experienced Red Sea diver (been twice) but I've dived around the world a fair bit. I think the availability of the Red Sea to European divers means we sometimes look down on it. Many people are biased by either visiting or hearing about the built up resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh. But there's a huge amount on offer here, only 5 hours flight from the UK. My first dive trip was to Sharm itself. Despite being touristy and built up, it's ...
...other way to experience the Red Sea is by liveaboard, and this is where Egypt stands out as a destination. The last few years have seen a huge number of high-end boats appear that are designed to satisfy the pickiest traveller. I travelled to Hurghada and did one of the northern Red Sea circuits with Blue o Two earlier this year - a fantastic boat and crew. The advantage of this type of diving is that you'er already on the dive site in the morning; ...

The Monastery of the Burning Bush.

Advantages: A very spiritual place containing thousands of years of history and rare manuscripts.
Disadvantages: Short opening hours. Traders badgering you once you leave.

St. Catherine’s Monastry. Sinai, Eygpt. St. Catharine’s Monastry is a designated UNESCO site can be found in Sinai Eygpt at the base of Mount Sinai in a tiny little gorge which appears to be in the middle of nowhere. It is reputed to be the oldest working monastery in the world. It is of significant importance not only for Greek Orthodox Christians but also Islam. It is primarily a Greek Orthodox Christian monastry but within the walls of the monastry ...
...of whom still live within the walls helping the monks in their day to day lives. It is here at the base of Mount Sinai that it is supposed to be where God appeared to Moses in the burning bush with the Ten Commandments and the bush is still there today in one of the little alleyways within the monastry walls. The monastry is built like a fort with very high walls and a tiny door way which leads into an alley way which leads into the monastry. It ...

Blue Hole

Advantages: Amazing sea life, beautiful sunshine, variety of activities
Disadvantages: Jagged rocks, quite busy

...to Dahab several times in the last year, but it was not until my last visit that I ventured to Blue Hole. This is for a combination of reasons, firstly because it has a bit of a reputation, quite a few divers have died here, as apparently it is quite a dangerous place to dive. I think however if you go with the right dive company and don't take any real risks you'll be perfectly safe. If you book when you are in Dahab (rather than Sharm as they ...
...around 5 English pounds that will take you from Dahab to the site, a short journey of around 20 mins. It's definitely worth a visit, but I would say not particularly child friendly as getting in and out of the water is challenging as there are some jagged rocks! ...

The Amazing Architecture of Ancient Egypt

Advantages: Amazing and Surreal
Disadvantages: Not really what I expected, Emtpy tombs, City near by

...because I'd always pictured the Pyramids to be out in the middle of nowhere, well the desert actually, and they always look like it on the television but in fact they are sandwiched between Giza and Cairo and driving through Cairo coming towards the cities each we saw a glimpse of the most enormous pyramid. It was the strangest thing, being on a coach and driving on a large main road through a city and suddenly over a few buildings seeing a large ...
...the days in which the pyramids were built but I just wasn't expecting civilisation so close. It perhaps ruined it for me slightly. The Pyramids, 9 of them in total all on the site of the Great Pyramid. The Great Pyramid is the largest of them, and on your arrival you think there are possibly only 3, maybe 5 or 6, but no way 9. The entrance fee in to the site is: £5 approx (40 Egyptian pounds). The tour guide did warn us about getting hassled by people ...
