I have lived in Israel for almost 3 years now and I plan to deliver my
opinion each site which I visited.

Eilat...priviledged destination of the fortunate French, the rich Americans... and the young people without a penny who
will camp in a field.
Around Eilat, it is the desert, a choking and splendid desert. From Eilat one can leave to go to Jordan and to visit this splendid site
called Petra, and which is currently deserted by the tourists due
to unfavourable geopolitical and economic situation.

Now, Eilat itself.

A few decades ago, Eilat was simply nothing; and from the desert and the
sea was born this seaside resort without heart, whose main interest
is that one does not fear there (or little) the dangers which make you
tremble in Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem...

In Eilat, you will feel hot, you will bathe, you will eat in
good restaurants, you will visit a beautiful aquarium, you will be
able to devote yourselves to the water sports of your choice... but
you will not even touch with a nail what Israel is.

I spent 3 days there , and I had fun indeed... but if you go to Israel, do not pass beside the rest of the country, the real one.

The sea #####

It is the principal attraction of Eilat. Even in summer,
whereas the temperatures largely exceeds 40°, the waters of the Red sea
are fresh and pleasant.

Eilat has 5 distinct beaches which go from fine sand to the rollers.
If you are fortunate, offer yourself a luxual hotel on the northern beach.

For the smallest budgets, there are more accessible hotels close to
the marina (in particular out of season), rent a cheap bungalow or go
campin, more to the east.

6 km fromthe center Shmurat Almogim, the coral reserve. I found
it really spectacular and besides it was said to me that
several films of the Commander Cousteau were made there. One can
rent diving masks, tubas and palms at the office of the reserve, and
swim along one of the 3 marked out routes. Labels planted in the reefs
make it possible to identify the corals, the plants and some of the
most current fishes.

A small piece of advice: do not try to gather a piece of coral in
remembering, you could have very big troubles...

More in the South, we visited the aquarium and the underwater
observatory. In the observatory, one goes down under the sea by a
staircase and one finds himself in a large circular part whose windows
give on the coral barrier; all kind of fish swim freely behind
the panes, they are really gorgeous.

There also exists in Eilat the possibility of making a ballade in
boats with a transparent floor.

Other activities
#######################""

For those who love birds, one can all year long observe
them in Eilat. There are plenty of sedentary local species; but the best
moment is in spring because millions of birds pass by there for their
migration.

You should also know that Eilat is the starting point for many excursions in
the Sinai mount, i.e. in Egypt. It is necessary to get an Egyptian
visa with the consulate of Egypt in Eilat.

Food ##########

It is like anywhere else, there are small pizzerias, stands with
falafel and luxury restaurants .

NB: In Eilat, to support the development of this zone, no taxes. You will notice it
in many fields, hat is to say that if there were the usual taxes, life would
be much more expensive since it is balneal. For example, a bus ticket
costs 3,80 NIS (new israeli shekel), instead of 5,40 NIS
anywhere else in the country.

I hope to have transmitted to you the desire for discovering this place.

I must admit, I was really dissapointed when I went here a few years ago, the Diving was excellent, but the place itself was awful, and the people very ignorant indeed, this is a nice easy to read review though........Roy
