My daughter has lived in Eilat for many years, and I myself finally went out there last year, not sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly suprised...
Eilat is a busy and young city, with so much to do in the day as well as the night.
There are so differant types of hotels, from 5* deluxe to the clean 2 stars, from self catering to HB. From hotels that cater for children or hotels that dont allow children at all. Whatever you are looking for there is a hotel to suit you.
Eilat has the northern beaches that most of the 5* hotels reside near. The beaches are clean, with lots of water sports on offer. But if you are into snorkling, you wont find it here. There is also a marina, with daily boat trips going to the border with Egypt (Taba). A trip of about 4 hours, or a longer cruise can be offer by going into Egypt and sailing to Coral Island for the day. A lovely trip to do, while relaxing in the sun, on the sea, in the middle of nowhere....great snorkling also is available at the crusader island in the middle of the red sea.
The most popular excusion is to swim or dive with the dolphins. There is a family of dolphins living in the dolphin reef (a baby was born there about 7 months ago). What a wonderful, beautiful and relaxing place to go to, and you can pay extra to swim or dives with these amazing mammals. To swim you have to be from the age of 10...and a swim means to snorkle with him in a group of 6 people, plus a guide. Or you can dive with them, from the age of 8, a new diver or qualified diver...what fun!
The sea temp is the same all year 22c - 23c
There are all sorts of jeeps trips to do into the desert. Into the mountains themselves, or going to see the flamingos in the salt pools, or even a night tour to go and see the foxes and wolves.
So many trips and things to do.
Eilat borders with Jordan to the north and Egpyt to the south. There are day trips to Petra, the red rose city in Jordan, everyday in English. It isnt a cheap tour to do, as you have to pay taxes to go into Jordan, but what a wonderful trip to do...something to remember for all ways. Going into Egypt is easy too...NO VISA is needed in the sinai desert, ONLY if you are going to Cairo.
And of course from Eilat, there are trip going on the Jersulem, Dead Sea and Massada..
This is a country and city that has it all....history (and lots of it) fun, sea, and sun...
The english pound to the new shekel is very good at the moment...there are always sales on...DO NOT go to eilat when its high season (there summer JULY and AUGUST) and DO NOT go on a jewish holiday, as you will pay more for your holiday and Eilat will be packed.
Temp are NOT 25c all year round...there is a Winter and it can be very cold at night, sometimes droping down to 10c...but when the sun is out it is lovely and it certainly beats the winter coldness of the UK!!
