El Cortez is one of those old places that still survive the demolition frenzy in Las Vegas. Located in Downtown - not the best place to go if you're here for just one or two days - is one of the locals favorite, well sort of.. It used to be a place humming with activity, however, given the return of the machines (which locals favor) you can find some days where many areas are devoid of customers. The cocktail waitresses provide a fair service and low tipping ($1) is OK. The hotel rooms and the casino floor had a recent remodeling and everything looks a bit more pleasant than in the past.
