El Mirador Quality Stay, Ostende

OSTENDERS!

Advantages: Good base for exploring, good selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
Disadvantages: Not as pretty as some other places. Building work is a problem at the moment.

and people watch. ~~~THINGS TO SEE. Wandering along the promenade in the sunshine was wonderful! We also enjoyed looking at some of the posh boats and yachts in the marina and looking at the fishing boats and the ships with rigging that were moored in the harbour. There is a North Sea Aquarium, some art galleries (the impressionist James Ensor came from Ostende), a museum, a stunning main square with water features and sculptures, a Gothic church and a casino (the Kursaal). Most visitors are there for the beach and to use Ostende as a base for exploring the surrounding cities and countryside. ~~~CONCLUSION. Ostende is lovely and we had a really enjoyable stay there. Mirador Des Concrete Works!

Mirador Des Concrete Works! We decided to spend a long weekend in Minorca?s Capital, Mahon and found this hotel through Octopus Travel; we paid £454.00 for 4 night?s bed and breakfast for three adults in a triple room over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Location: 8½/10 The Hotel is situated in a nice quiet residential area about ten minutes walk from the centre of Mahon and only 5kms from the airport. It is set on a cliff above the port which can be reached down a long and steep road at the back of the hotel or by a large set of steps from the centre of the city. Appearance: 8½/10 Quite modern and well kept, with a large terrace area at the side. Parking: 0/10 None! Be warned if you hire a car as you will have to park some way from the hotel and the local police just love to ticket hire cars! Lobby: 8/10 Reception ...

A Class Act On The Costa Brava

Advantages: Beautiful Villa, Scenic Location
Disadvantages: A little too isolated?

with casual thoughts of strolling to a nearby café for breakfast, for example, or of walking back from dinner along the seafront. In this respect at least, El Mirador's splendid isolation does begin to seem a little less, well, splendid. It is worth pointing out that anyone staying at El Mirador will need to have a car, and to be prepared to use it. The nearest bars, cafes and restaurants are located in the small township of Calonge, approximately a ten-minute drive away. Ditto for the nearest shops, also to be found in Calonge. Incidentally, the very nearest of these shops is a petrol station near the bottom of the hill (and although this may sound rather unpromising, the petrol station concerned is surprisingly well stocked, with fresh local breads, cheeses, decent wines and the like).
