Advantages: Amazing sights, very cheap, unique city, great shopping Disadvantages: Altitude sickness, hard to get around
...is excellent. We stayed in the Hotel Andes which gave us a full american breakfast each morning and a laundry service for a few dollars, but any guide book (or taxi driver for that matter) will point you in the direction of numerous such hotels.
PLACES TO EAT
As with any major city there are huge numbers of restaurants in most areas, and it is generally a case of exploring. There are no real 'restaurant districts' as such, though you find a fair concentration around tourist areas such as the Witches' Market. My favourite restaurant (possibly in the world) is a place called the Inca Palace, right above the main Western Union Bank in the centre of LaPaz. They serve excellent pasta dishes, but their speciality is red meat. Two favourites were the fillet steak, served on a stone plate fired in a kiln so that the steak keeps cooking as you eat...

Advantages: World's highest capital that's high on life. Disadvantages: Oxygen tanks are expensive.

ATTRACTIONS
Football is popular in Bolivia and the cable channels screen matches from all over the world pretty much 24 hours a day. The biggest team in the country playing out of LaPaz are sensibly called the Strongest FC. Boliviar are another top team (Santa Cruz) who perennially do well in the continents version of Champions League, the Copa America. All the big cities have decent sized stadiums and if you get a chance seeing a game is great entertainment. In Santa Cruz we watched local team Oriente Petrolero trash LaPaz's Iberoamericana 5 - 1 in front of a small but noisy crowd. With the terraces...

The Palace Hotel in Buxton, Derbyshire, is an amazing hotel. It is an RAC 4* accredited hotel and my partner and I went on a 2 night leisure break there for Easter. We chose this particular hotel because it has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and more
