Elgin is an ancient city and royal burgh, county town of Morayshire (pronounced 'mur-ray-shire). Lying five miles inland from the Moray Firth,on the 'Laich of Moray', it is at the centre of some of the finest arable farmland in Scotland and has one of the few livestock markets lefts. It is dominated from the West by the imposing domed cupola of Dr Gary's hospital, now one of the largest in Scotland and by St Giles church on ... ...Street. ELGIN CATHEDRAL
The reason that it is a city and not merely a town is that it boasts a beautiful medieval cathedral. Well, it did until the Wolf of Badenoch got his hands on it several hundreds of years ago! It took a hundred years to build and the Wolf torched it in minutes. It was ever thus!
The imposing ruined façade of the cathedral still has the, now glass-less, rose window - the Lantern of the North. In recent years the cathedral ...

Advantages: Of what? Micky D's? None! Disadvantages: Propagation of globalisation...and spots.
...of that product as it is available to the purchaser. I don’t think you’re really trying too hard to comply with this law. I really don’t! I hate that!
29) I hate the fact that I was offered the McDonalds theme (I’m Lovin’It’) as a ringtone for my phone. It may not be directly your doing but I’m going to blame you anyway.

.... The highlights are the crown jewels of Scotland, known as the Honours, and of course the famous Stone of Destiny (the Stone of Scone to you and me), the throne of Scottish kings which used to be in Westminster Abbey but was returned to Scotland a few years ago. Quite right too, says I, and what about the Elgin Marbles next, eh?
The rest of the Royal Apartments have been restored beautifully to within an inch of their lives, but rather empty and soulless. They are still used by the Scottish Parliament for receptions and social functions, so it's nice that they are in use, anyway.
The most fascinating part of the Royal Apartments is the tiny room with its original painted walls and panelling which was Mary Queen of Scots private room. From its little window she would have looked down towards the city, and the room really does evoke a feeling...

Advantages: Small, friendly, beautiful scenery, a great village to visit. Disadvantages: bit of a hike to get there if you don't drive
...west to Keith and beyond in the north east. It has a pretty main street, with traditional butchers, tea rooms, gift shops and Post Office, and a Village Square, in front of the Parish Church. The Square is where the main buses to and from Elgin stop, and there are always flowers everywhere here - the floral displays in Aberlour are always very colourful and eye-catching. INdeed, the village has won more Scotland in Bloom awards than it knows what to do with!
The Village of Aberlour is a two minute walk from The River Spey, which is one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Scotland. Also running close to Aberlour, is the Speyside Way, a long distance walk which runs the route of the old train line from Buckie to Aviemore. It is an 84 mile walk, and Aberlour is a popular stopping place along the way.
Aberlour Village is in the valley...
