My husband first took me to Dublin for Valentines Day in 2001 and we've been back every year since. We love the place and always seem to be able to find new places to stay, dine and visit. Our stay in the Eliza Lodge was during our 2003 visit to Dublin and it was certainly one of the best.

The Eliza Lodge is described as a luxury guesthouse at the foot of the Milennium Bridge. This is a fairly accurate description of the place, although I would argue that there are a few more luxury places to stay including The Morgan, but that's for another review. The accomodation consisting of 18 guest rooms is situated above the Eliza Blues restaurant which serves absolutely superb food and employs friendly and efficient staff. You can book a table in the restaurant via a direct phone line from your room, which I would definitely recommend doing at least once during your stay. In fact we've been to the restaurant every time we've visited Dublin, even when we've been staying somewhere else!

The Accommodation
-----------------------------

All 18 guestrooms have ensuite bathrooms. We stayed in an executive room though and if you can possibly stretch to one, they are great. In the ensuite bathroom there is a jacuzzi bath and the bedroom has a corner window. The view out of these rooms is spectacular - you can see right down the River Liffey in both directions - we've got some stunning photos and you can spend an age just watching people go by. The penthouse rooms have balconies outside.

Everything is newly furnished and there are all the usual mod cons you would expect in a hotel of this quality - a colour tv, hospitality tray, hairdryer and safe. We couldn't really have asked for anything more, except perhaps for a couple of extra towels. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms spacious.

How much is it going to cost me?
----------------------------------------------

You can find all the details of the Eliza Lodge's latest prices on their website www.dublinlodge.com but as a rough guide a Double room (1 double bed) costs 130 or 150 euro per room per night on a Friday or Saturday, dependng on the season. Penthouses and executive rooms obviously cost more, but midweek is cheaper. Single rooms are available. Also cots are available on request.

Location Location Location
--------------------------------------

As I've already said the bedrooms look out onto the River Liffey and it's just a short stroll into the centre of the busy, bustling Temple Bar area. The location is wonderful - just the right combination of close to the action, but far enough away to get an undisturbed nights sleep.

Anything else?
---------------------

The room rates include full english breakfast which is taken in the restaurant downstairs.
Eliza Lodge is closed for Christmas 2005.
Check-in time is 1p.m. and check-out time is 11a.m.
There is a lift so it is suitable for the disabled, anyone with children or a lot of luggage or indeed anyone with an aversion to walking up and down the stairs!
There is no swimming pool or gym or other facilities, but then again there are very few hotels in Dublin which do offer these facilities.

All in all I think this is a well-run, well-appointed hotel and one of the best in Dublin. The location is dreamy and the staff friendly. We had a weekend break which we'll never forget and I'm sure you will too!
