Elounda Peninsula All Suite Hotel, Elounda

Advantages: Economic accomodation
Disadvantages: Very basic

...The Elounda Gulf, is a very basic accommodation offering. It sits just to the East of Elounda itself (approximately 10 minutes walk) and overlooks the bay and a variety of Hotels. The complex is a series of Chalet style accommodation, each suite sits slightly higher that the last carved into a slow rising hill. On the two main occasions I have stayed here I have spent my time at the top tier of the complex. All the suites are identical, none better internally than the other. The bonus for us was of course that we got the better view. The only downside was that the best views that could be had were on the other side of the complex, and no rooms have windows facing out in this direction for some unknown reason. Each suite has a outdoor eating area which consists of table and chairs, as well as some concrete seating that surrounds... Read review

...The Choice... My partner and I have been travelling to Greece for many years and spend cold winter evenings browsing brochures religiously for a new place to visit. On one particular evening we decided on the charming fishing village of Elounda in North Eastern Crete and settled on the Tasmania Village as our choice of accommodation, which we booked through Kosmar as a package at just under £700 for 2 weeks during peak season. The Location.... After landing in Heraklion we travelled by coach for approximately 2 hours travelling along the main coast road when we finally snaked over the precarious hill from Agios Nicholas down into the village of Elounda, past the village square - which is lined with an array of tavernas, bars and shops and the harbour where fishing boats and caiques advertising trips to the nearby Island... ...My wife and I visited Spinalonga two years ago when we were staying in a lovely resort on the South Coast of Crete Makriyialos highly recommended resort but that is another story. We arrived at Elounda by Coach to board a small boat for the Trip to Spinalonga which we had been told about by my Brother who had visited a few years previous. The island looms into sight, It was immediately obvious that some restoration work had been made since my brothers visit as there is now a new (but very well restored) cafe near the boat landing. Spinalonga was used as a Leaper Colony for many many years but not anymore. At first the suffers were sent to the Island under the impression that they would be able to return, this was quickly dispelled on their arrival when they found out from the other inhabitants that it was a one way trip...
