...in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament which is easy to miss, but possibly provided me with more entertainment than the Parliament itself (which possibly says a lot about my priorities!!).
Opposite the hill on which stands the Parliament, there is a useful tourist office (it is next to the US Embassy). The people there are extremely helpful and patient when dealing with stupid questions, one of the best tourist information centres I have encountered!
The Rideau Canal runs through the north of the city. In the winter, this freezes up completely and becomes what they proudly claim is the largest ice rink in the world. When I was in Ottawa, it hadn't quite reached freezing point (it was November) so I wasn't able to test these claims, but there are hundreds of postcards of it, and it does look amazing!

Advantages: A Suite of Rooms to spread out in without an exhorbitant price tag Disadvantages: None
...We have stayed at the 'Minto' twice and have booked another visit for later this year. We have always enjoyed our stays there (hence the re-book) and are especially looking forward to this year as it has recently been completely re-furbished. The pictures on the website look great. We find that, as a family of five, with three children suitehotels are definitely the way to go. We appreciate having the extra space, our own lounge, kitchen and laundry room. Our children were quite young when we first went (the youngest was only just one) and it was so much more relaxing not to be confined to just one or two adjoining rooms. Advantages: Location, size of rooms. Disadvantages: Smokiness
...8 of us stayed at the Capital Hill Hotel+Suites in Sept 2006.
If location is what you want, then this is a winner-the hotel is as centrally located as you are going to get, plus the bus from the Train Station stops outside. A few minutes walk south down elgin street is the popular bars/pubs area popular with the Ottawa University students. To the other side of the hotel was the historical/government buildings, and sightseeing tours. The main eating+drinking area (Murray St and around) was about 4-5mins
The outside of the hotel is a little shabby apart from the entrance area, but the reception area is very nicely presented and welcoming. Theres a small shop in the entrance which sells souveniers and selected food items (good for breakfast if you dont want to eat the hotels breakfast). Theres also a comedy club in the basement...

Well im back onto the hotel reviews again after a recent visit to Ottawa in Canada. After freezing my buttocks off and nestling into my scarf grabbing my bags and rushing into the hotel I had little chance to look at the exterior of the hotel!
