I had an interesting experience of Emirates as my flight was split in two: the first leg went UK to Dubai and was fantastic. The plane was brand new with more leg room than I knew what to do with and friendly and attentive cabin crew. The slight lack in quality of the food food was made up in the quantity as I was allowed to have two meals to make up for them running out of my prefered choiced and I was given a couple of extra bread rolls too. The meal itself had taste and was definatly edible. The coup de grace was the entertainment system- an enormous screen made viewing a pleasure and the sheer choice of films (500) which could be started on request meant the flight sped by, I actually forgot at some points that I was on a plane, which was good as I can be a nervous flyer. And so I went into the second leg of the journey with high hopes.....
...only to be disapointed. It seems Dubai to KL isn't such a profitable route so we were only afforded and very old plane with tiny screens and cabin crew who were bordering on just plain rude. Fortunatly the food was as good (although they didn't give me extra on this flight despite running out of my choice again) and the leg room was also excellent. My 6ft travelling partner who often finds fault with legroom was very happy.
On the whole, Emirates is not a bad airline, it is one of the better ones I've flown with, but it does have a very good reputation which I feel it did not quite live up too on the less popular route but stick to well flown routes and you're likely to come off smiling- especially from the price which was a good ₤100 less than the next cheapest airline.
