We had never flown with Emirates Airlines but had of course heard that they have been voted the top Airline numerous times.
Imust explain that we won this trip so we had no choice in the airline we flew with but if and I hope we do go again we would fly with these again.
We caught the 10pm flight as it would mean a sleep on the plane and because of the 3 hour time difference we would arrive in Dubai at 8.30 am which would give us those extra hours there.
We took off from London Heathrow Terminal 3. The plane left on time.
We had plenty enough leg room. Emirates also give you pillows, blankets and earphones all of which you will find waiting for you on your seat. They are not for you to keep though!
The Stewardesses were of all Nationalities and more than helpful and polite and also very efficent.
We travelled economy class but there was still complimentary drinks with the exception of champagne so dont go thinking that you cannot drink over there.
You can buy duty free perfume on board the plane but not cigarettes or drink. This is no hardship though as dont forget Dubai is free of taxes so it is cheaper to buy it in the duty free shop at Dubai than on the plane or even at Heathrow.
Flying was great as on the back of the seats not only could you watch films and play games but on one channel you could see the route you were taking, outside temperature, speed etc.
If that was not enough you have a wonderful addition which you dont get in a lot of other planes. They have two video cameras so that you can go to a channel and see whats on the video camera that looks down and another to see what is ahead of you. This makes the landing a bit of an experience!
This is great and most people were watching on these channels and not a film!
The meals are great too. For example we had a dinner and a breakfast going out but coming back we had a dinner and the second meal was snacks because it was teatime.
Dinner was Appetizers Oriental seafood salad - a selection of assorted seafood, tossed in a tangy sweet chilly sauce. Salad Seasonal salad served with vinaigrette dressing. For the main course you could have either chicken chabsat which is tender pieces of chicken marinated with Arabic spices, cooked with rice, tomatoes, cauliflower and garnished with fried onions and with french beans and tomato concasse or Beef Tenderloin like we had which is grilled beef tenderloin and served with a creamy forestmushroom sauce, topped with chopped chives with roasted potatoes, red pepper and patty pan squash.
Tea was chocolate mousse and then bread and butter and cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee with a chocolate.
Doesnt that make your mouth water and believe me they give you plenty and it is as good as it sounds.
On the return flight from Dubai expect to have a message come over thePA system saying you might want to cover your face as they will be spraying the aircraft. They then come down the aisles with a spray can in each hand.
We landed early

I love watching the flight details and tracking the journey- BA often has that facility, but I've never come across the video camera before. Great idea-if a bit scary !! Useful review.

I flew to Honk Kong with Emirate back in 1995, and they were excellent then too.
