Once the tallest building in the world, the Empire State Building is still worth a visit even if the World Trade Center now dwarfs it in the New York skyline, if only because it usually comes as something of a surprise that people really do go about their day-to-day business in this world famous building. The views from the top are, of course, stunning, and this may be a better bet for photos than the World Trade Center, since, without glass you run less risk of annoying reflections. If you are going to go up both buildings, be sure to go to the Empire State Building at night - the lights across Manhatten are as amazing as you might imagine.
