When visiting New York, the Empire State building is one of the first attractions in any tourists mind, which is just as well for the people who make money from their visiting, as the service they offer has really plummeted.
My first visit to the building around 8 years ago was pleasant, up fairly quickly after a reasonable cue, look around, and then back down no hassle. The I would have strongly reccomened the experience. Now though, it is more hassle than it's worth, especially with the Top of the Rock viewing centre now available at the Rockerfeller centre. After being shepharded along in a cue for what seemed like an age every person id now forced to have a photo taken, with the option of buying on the way down, which is where my main issue lies.
You can no longer simply leave when you are finished admiring the unarguably fantastic views. Now you have to cue to get out due to everyone being shown their photos taken earlier. The experience is a long, drawn out process which requires much patience, and personally I would reccomend the Rockerfeller, or a helicopter tour if you have a little more budget, as alround more pleasant ways to view the fantastic views New York has to offer.
