Enterprise were the chosen company of my car insurers for a courtesy car after some dopy woman hit my little astra. (L reg, rusty old diesel but my baby nonetheless). Might I add, she did not hit it once, she hit it twice!!?! A fortnight ago I was in Hell and I would of killed for a pound. O the joys of depression.
When I first called my insurers, they were helpful and made the whole thing easy enough, if expensive. (I had to pay an excess of £120) That's another story. They called Enterprise who in turn called me. (Enter my knight in shining armour.) Through numerous calls Enterprise had said the insurers would only pay for a group A car, but had decided to upgrade me as I have 3 young children. All this was decided by them, and they pushed her company to pay for the upgrade. Although grateful I wouldn't be strapping three children into a tiny 3 door car, I imagined a bus coming out the garage!
On Monday I took my astra in, promised her she was going to be in no pain, and saw the bus they had bought me to use. A vauxhall Meriva. I would review this car as it's such a hilarious tale, but I have no idea on the model! The person I dealt with at Enterprise, let's call him Andy (I don't remember names well) was very helpful and did his best to calm down this neurotic woman who kept chanting "I will never be able to drive this" as some kind of mantra. He helped strap in the various baby seats and booster cushions and took me off to sign the paperwork.
I paid my deposit (£20 refundable), shakily, and admired Andy's skill at putting people at ease. Their office was small, open plan and extremely tidy. It wasn't over friendly looking, no Central Perk, but it was far from austere. i guess you have no need for comfy sofa's when they are offering you a great car for minimum prices. For most a chair and coffee is the essentials.
He showed me where all the controls were as I repeated my mantra over and over and calculating how far I would be walking that week. Andy explained the call centre numbers, even laughing when I asked (sincerely) which number to call when I couldn't open the petrol cap.
To cut out my story on the meriva, when I took the car back he was the person I dealt with again. I liked this idea, you should always have the option to deal with just one person. He chatted to the kids as he checked the car our for damage (I think he was pleasantly surprised to find none). Apparently the service didn't end at dropping off my rental, he took me back to get my "baby", turning me down when I offered a straight swap, car for car. He helped transfer everything back over before he said goodbye, no doubt laughing his head off.
Enterprise turned a bad experience into one that eased the burden. I was given their card, and will be using it in the future for long haul holidays to Cornwall and suchlike. Having never hired a car before, therefore having nothing to relate it to, I can't compare. Thus said, I do think anyone would be hard pushed to beat their customer service from beginning to end.
