A few months ago I hired a large car, which turned out to be a very ugly (only my opinion) Chrysler Sabine. I hired it for 10 days to go on holiday with. Not going away till the Sunday I had to pick it up on the Saturday. The car was less than 6 months old. When I picked it up I discovered one of the rear passanger doors would not open. The manager virtually said 'tough luck' - as I wouldn't need the door I took the car. When I got home I removed all the rubbish which was on the floor in the rear of the car.
On Sunday i drove a few miles to fill the tank. (had a tesco money off voucher-so didn't use a local garage). On the way back the temp guage reached its upper limit. I drove slowly home. When the car had cooled (I had to delay leaving for my holiday) I checked the expansion tank. IT WAS EMPTY!!!!!. It needed 2 and a half litres of water to fill it! While I had the bonnet up I checked the oil. The dipstick came out dry!!!! So as we set of on our holiday (we had no choice as we couldn't wait for the branch to open on Monday) we had to stop at Asda to get some oil - it needed 2 litres!!
I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't checked it? I shouldn't have to as the manager had told me that everything had been checked before I drove the car away. WHAT A LIAR.
The car actually drove very nicely and was very comfortable, it just wouldn't win a beauty contest.
The story doeas have a happy ending.....when I took the car back and told the manager my tale, and gave him the receipt for the oil, he refunded the complete hire charge - my 10 day hire, insteat of costing nearly £300 ended up costing just over £8 for the oil I put in the car.
