I've worked in Espionage for a few months now and am ready to enlighten you all about probably one of the best clubs in Edinburgh.
Espionage is situated on Victoria Street but can also be accessed from the Cowgate. It is on 5 levels with 5 bars and 4 (apparently) different themes of music and drinks.

Espionage opens at 7pm until 3am 7 days a week. During the festival and over christmas and new year the opening is extended until 5am. Entry is free at all times.
Dress code is smart, i.e. no trainers, tracksuit bottoms or baseball caps.
Drinks are served right up til closing time which I find to be a huge benefit considering most of the clubs in Edinburgh won't serve you after 2.30am. Drinks ... more
I've worked in Espionage for a few months now and am ready to enlighten you all about probably one of the best clubs in Edinburgh.
Espionage is situated on Victoria Street but can also be accessed from the Cowgate. It is on 5 levels with 5 bars and 4 (apparently) different themes of music and drinks.
When you enter from Victoria Street you will find yourself in The Lizard Lounge, this is on the top two levels. The upper level has a bar close to the door, (usually with only 1 member of female staff working) and a seating area to the rear. The lower level of Lizard Lounge, appropriatly named minus 1, has a small bar (usually 2 female members of staff) and a seating area. This area seems to be very popular with hen and stag parties as it is usually quiet til around midnight and they can have the place to themselves. The Lizard Lounge doesn't have a DJ so no requests but there is a mix of music played from a computer controlled by management. The "drink theme" on these two levels is whisky and bourbon and you will find a variety available there.
Down one level brings you to Kasbar which specialises in Gin and has easy RnB/hip hop playing from a computer system n the office so again, no requests. Kasbar looks like it has an Eastern theme with booths around the walls for seating 2-4 people and small stools around the square bar which is situated in the middle of the floor. Kasbar will usually have between 2 and 5 female staff working on it.
If you venture down another level you will find Pravda which specialises in vodka and has a huge variety available. The music theme there is cheesy pop and chart music but there is a DJ at the corner of the dance floor so requests are possible. It has a problem with a smell of sick though which you can notice immediately at the beginning of the night but it seems to get fainter as the night goes on. It offers a big dance floor and also a big bar which is usually staffed by around 2 up to 8 male members of staff. There is a good amount of seating available all around the floor. Pravda is by far the busiest floor.
Down one more level brings you to the very bottom floor, Mata Hari, my personal favourite. This bar specialises in Tequila and music played there is generally RnB/Hip Hop. It is possible the biggest bar in close competition with Pravda. There is a DJ on this floor by the dance floor and there is ample seating in the way of big cushioned alcoves to seat groups of people. You will find between 1 and 8 mostly female staff on the bar at any one time. You will also find the cloakroom on this floor and the back door onto the Cowgate.
The cloakroom is popular with customers and it costs only £1 per item. If you put a bag in with a jacket, you're bag will be free.
So that's all the bars described. So for the essential details.
Drinks are priced at around £2.80 for a spirit and a dash, £2.80 - £3.20 for bottled beers and alcopops and £2.80 to £3.00 for a pint.
There are often selected drinks at £2.00 before 11 at weekends, not sure about through the week. They hold "Sinful Sundays" on Sundays (duh!!) where cocktails are 2 for 1 all night at £5.50. There is a good cocktails and shooter menu available all week.
There are toilets situated on every floor.
There is also a member of security and cameras on every floor so you will find that there is little or no trouble to ruin your night out.
Staff all have uniform (all black with red or black apron) so are easily recognised and happy to help :-)
Advantages: good size, nice drinks Disadvantages: busy busy busy
...One more rule of espionage is get there as early as you can. I am talking 4-7pm if you want to get a seat anywhere. After 10pm any night you can hardly move around it is so busy.
Personally i think this is a fire hazard as if there was a fire most people would be crushed or burn. Drinks - they do a really good james bond themed shooters menu, £2.50 per shooter. I would recommend scaramanga, teehee, miss moneypenny and octopussy.
Party bowls are ... ...my chair.
Times - espionage is open from 4pm-3am every day, although durung the festival it is open 3pm till 5am.
It is free to get in but the drinks are not cheap, altough not particularly expensive for a posh club.
TOP TIPS
Just to recap, i will list my top tips for a decent night at espionage.
1. Enter via the back entrance. this way you start off on a good floor without having to squeeze down 3 other floors to get there.
2. Drink lots of ...

Advantages: Free entry Disadvantages: drinks are pricey
Its free entry to this bar/club but they make up for this with the price of drinks. The clubs has 5 floors the top three are more the type of bar atmosphere, the 4th is dance and the bottom is R&B. Good for even a works night out as you can chat and relax on the top three floors before then you can head down to the other 2 floors for a dance later. Saves moving from pub to club.
If you have a hard time getting in the top floor there's always the ... ...bottom floor. To be honest your probably better using this entrance anyway as the cloakroom is on the next floor up. It is always packed I love the R&B floor myself as the dance one gets too cramped. Really nicely decorated. Toilets are really nicely decorated and kept clean. But girls watch out there can be some really sleezy characters but apart from that an amazing night out. ...

Advantages: The funniest play in the West End... Ever Disadvantages: You might miss some of it because you are crying
and comic timing. This is perhaps the ultimate spoof espionage thriller. The play starts with the 37 year old hero feeling bored and looking for something exciting to do. He goes to the theatre where he meets a mysterious young lady and to cut a hysterical story short, she gets murdered in his flat after revealing some secret information and the chase begins. Most other roles are played by just two male actors, sometimes several at a time with just a quick change of hat and accent to alert you to the identity. Pythonesque female characters and outrageous overacting will keep you laughing to the end.
The 39 Steps is currently playing at the Criterion Theatre, which is in the middle of Piccadilly Circus, easy to see, with large signs outside. The theatre is a good old theatre with reasonable comfortable seats, although we had slightly restricted ...

of my two children and had them asking lots of questions. As I walked through this it did stir the feelings of revulsion I have for those who deny or talk down the holocaust and reminds me of why I despise the BNP and its supporters with such a passion. The exhibit actually ends on the second floor such is the extent of the exhibits.
On the first floor there are some more large exhibits including the walk through cockpit of a WWII bomber and a full size excocet missile that gained notoriety during the Falklands War. The most interesting display on this floor though is Secret War a history of espionage during the wars and up to the present day, in particular counter espionage work and forces like the SAS, there is even a film of the Iranian Embassy siege and the SAS going in which bought back memories of watching The Professionals as ...
