The Esplanade Hotel is a 2star in a great location right on the seafront with the shops and bus station only 5 minutes walk away. The hotel looks tired and is in urgent need of redecoration inside and out. It is an old building so there is a labyrinth of corridors. Our room was an acceptable size with a television and tea and coffee making facilities. The decoration was poor with the wallpaper starting to peel off the walls. The bathroom was a disgrace no natural light with just a shower and a minute hand basin with the toilet in an unhygienic position.I suppose it did have a fan.The rooms were cleaned daily but cosmetically. We still found dirt and rubbish after it was cleaned. we were on half board and it was waiter service. There was a limited choice on the menu and the food was quite reasonable albeit the portions were mean. They looked bigger until you realised it was served on a small plate. The reception staff were efficient, friendly and helpful, Entertainment most evenings usually bingo followed by a quiz then a live singer . Free car parking for guests. Best suited to couples or singles over 50.
