Last year, sometime, I don't remember when, we went to a wedding fayre at out local Hayley Conference Centre.
We were given the usual tour of the function rooms, hotel bedrooms and shown the menu options for the wedding breakfast and evening buffet.
After picking my fiance off the floor, we decided that we couldn't spare 'that sort of' cash on our wedding. My other half has strong views on paying £50 a head for someone to eat at his own wedding! So other arrangements were made and that was that.
About a month later, I was sent a letter, from Hayley Conference Centres. It basically said the following the wedding fayre, we had 'won' a night in one of their hotels. Now, I get very sceptical about 'winning' items, especially when I don't recall any offer of any prizes. So, I called the number on the letter to see how we had won this. The nice lady basically said that there was a prize draw following the wedding fayre and that we really had won a night in one of their hotels. So after speaking to my fiance, we decided that we would go along and if they tried with the hard sell, we could just miander along until the end and come away.
We live nearer the one at Eastwood, but fancied a change of scene. Plus we wanted to take our daughter with us who was around four months at the time. We arranged to go to Ettington Chase as neither of us had visited Shakespeare country before and it looked nice in the brochure. I called them back and we arranged to go, I was also cheeky and asked if Megan would be free too as she would need a travel cot. They were absolutely fantastic and guaranteed us that would be no problem.
So......... we went for the weekend (the weekend we wanted was available too) got to Ettington Chase and its set in beautiful surroundings, homely still but very professional. The room size is extremely generous, all the usual bits and bobs like a TV, kettle, bath/shower etc. They also use the most amazing mattress, mattress pads and pillows. They guarantee a great nights sleep and boy you really do get a great nights sleep. You can even buy them from reception if you want to! Our freebie also included breakfast, which was everything you could possibly imagine. Cooked breakfast, fresh tea and coffee, toast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit and more! I wish we had got down there earlier as you could have eaten solidly from 8-10!
Even though the staff must have been aware we paid nothing, the service was exemplory, second to none. They cooed over Megan and the travel cot was in the room as requested. There was also no sales pitch whatsoever, they let us enjoy our weekend entirely.
Location wise, you would need a car to get into the town itself as it would be too far for even the most avid walker to attempt! There is plenty of parking in the town though. Once in the town there is plenty to do, whether you're a foodie, shopper or taking in the scenery or learning more about Shakespeare. There really is something for everyone.
Please try and go sometime, it would be worth paying for. We are booking it next year, and paying incidently!
