The hotel has recently been updated and now consists of 105 rooms across 8 floors. While we were staying they were still doing building work, it was of no inconvenience to us, the only difference is that both staff and customers had to use to the service elevator instead of the customer lifts. Prior to going I read that from the rooftop the hotel had 'unbeatable' views of the city, when we decided to go up their we heard the workmen when coming out of the elevator so decided against going out there.
LOCATION
The hotel is situated on Carrier d'Arago in the Eixample district of Barcelona, which is more of a residential area of Barcelona, the Passeig de Gracia is only a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel, if you walk straight down Carrier d'Arago from the hotel it brings you out on the Passeig de Gracia right by the Casa Battlló, one of Gaudi's masterpieces Barcelona has to offer. The hotel is only a 15-20 minute walk to Plaça de Catalunya. At Plaça de Catalunya you are able to pick up the tour buses to take you on a guide around the city or to the entrance of La Rambla. As well as the tourist attraction Sagrada Familia being within walking distance from the hotel. There are metro stops close by
HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT
Prior to going to Barcelona, people who stayed in this hotel recommended using the Aerobus from the airport, which costs 4.25 euros for a single trip, it actually drops you further away from the hotel and is more expensive than the RENFE. Personally I would recommend using the train, RENFE. There is a specific line that goes from the airport to the centre of Barcelona that stops at Barcelona Sants (also known as Sants Estacion), Passeig de Gracia and Estacio de Franca. The stop Passeig de Gracia is just down the road from the hotel, a couple of minutes walk, which is 2.80 euros.
THE HOTEL
The hotel is one of the smallest hotels I have been in, not saying its a bad thing. It is very professional and elegant looking. The staff are very helpful. The restaurant is small with an accompanying bar. I only had breakfast at the hotel which they offered pastries, yoghurts, cereal, full breakfast (I don't have cooked breakfast so didn't look but my mum didn't like the look of it so didn't have cooked breakfast, she usually has it!). On the roof there is supposed to be an outdoor pool.
THE ROOM
The colour scheme is black and white, its like being in a zebra. The room had air-conditioning, 32" TV (there was 24 channels of which 4 were english speaking - CNN, Sky News, BBC News, TCM. After the first night we lost the signal for Sky News and BBC News so were left with CNN and TCM.), Telephone, Minibar, Guest Laundry, ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and a hairdryer. Room service is available. Small balcony, not that I would want to go out and look on to the road.
COST
For the 3 nights in January for 2 people in a twin room on bed and breakfast basis it cost me £210.
Thats about all that I can think of, if I were to go back to Barcelona again I would probably use this hotel again!
