I went to Eurocamp in August/September 2004, just after my 18th birthday. Sadly, I went with my now ex b/f but it was sheer bliss. Eurocamp is based all over Europe but I chose to stay in the south of France (Frejus near St. Tropez/Cannes/Nice etc.) and it was amazing. The south of France itself can be quite expensive, especially with food and Eurocamp provided cheap but still great food so the budget wasn't completely blown.
The only disadvantage I can think of it that Eurocamp really requires a car. I stayed in a caravan/mobile home. The 'mobile home' was really really REALLY far away from the main entrance - and we didn't bring a car! So if we wanted to go out in France (which we did) it meant walking about 2-3 miles to the main gate in the hot sun every day and then 2-3 back again later on. I have to say though, It is an incredible workout. The scenary there is beautiful. The camp is set in sort of a forest and it's actually really lovely and peaceful to walk through in the morning. I live in central London, so I am rather deprived though!
Getting to the campsite and from the campsite generally meant getting a taxi or bus (as I had no car). The bus only ran every few hours but taxi's are very cheap and unbelievably comfy! The taxi's seem like VIP cars! To and from frejus cost roughly £5-£10 by taxi, and about £1 by bus. Eurocamp also offer bike hire so you just cycle around the south of France and enjoy the views if you like. Eurocamp is well sign posted and I would assume that the campsites are well known in the local area. When I arrived in the town of Frejus, I asked locals how to get there and every local knew of the site. So Eurocamp is easy, very easy, to find.
Eurocamp also offer excursions. I'm not sure if these are free or not, I assume they were/are. I prefferred to go it alone and not with a group and just relax. Eurocamp provide you with local maps and bus schedules and train times, so you really cannot get lost and you're completely safe. Eurocamp allows you to be as free as possible.
The staff there seemed really nice and I believe they have a sort of 'child minding' club thingy for young children. I think that's great, as the kids seemed so happy, a bit wild, but happy and the parents could do whatever they wanted.
There's a lot to do in Eurocamp. Shops, supermarkets, clubs, bars, restaurants, sports sports sports! In 'Frejus' camp there was about 3 or 4 large pools, one with a jacuzzi. The great thing is, these pools often aren't crowded, as most people focus on tanning rather than swimming, so there's always room! Pools are clean and fun and surrounded by pretty palm trees too. Some have spectacular views.
The accomodation, at Eurocamp, was very good. Rather expensive for singles and just couples - but great value for families and large groups (my 5 days there cost £500, that's just for accomodation) .They also offer discounts for large groups I believe, and families (including single parents - they have the ginger bread scheme there!) I stayed in the 'monaco deluxe' which is the top of the range and it was really lovely. The home had 3 bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with 2 single beds and one with a bunkbed. It had a great kitchen, but sadly I didn't cook because the restaurants in the local area are so amazing! It also had a large living room with a big big cosy sofa. The only problem with the home was that our door didn't lock! which meant anyone could've come in - but the staff helped even though the door couldn't be fixed! When you get there you do notice that people keep to themselves, everyone is so happy there and really relaxed. I don't think I've seen that anywhere else.
I'm hoping to go back there within the next year or so - most likely back to the frejus site too. I only stayed there a week and really didn't want to leave. I'd recommend going for a few weeks if not a month, as there's so much to see and do. It's a great place, for everyone, of all ages.
