There were no problems with the car we rented. We liked it and it ran very well. It took about 20 minutes of standing in line at the airport before we could pick it up but that was not a big deal.
Two days before we departed we parked the car on the street in a small town in Tuscany. When we came back we noticed that someone had hit the car and there were some damages to the rear bumper. Luckily it only happened a few minutes before we got to the car and someone had seen it happen and written down the license plate of the person who had it the car. We got took this info to the local police station and had them right up a police report. We had pictures of the damages and everything. They were able to locate the girl who hit our car and they brought her in. She eventually confessed to having hit the car and took responsibility. The police officers had her sign a document claiming responsibility for the damages. Needless to say I think we had adequate proof to show that we were not responsible for the damages to the car.
When we returned the car to Europcar we showed them the damage and also gave them all the documents. I asked them if this was covered under the insurance since it I was not at fault and they said it was, and not to worry about it since I had proof.
About a week after I returned I had two new charges on my card from EUROPCAR totaling over $150.00. I had contacted their customer service earlier about a different matter and received a response within a couple of days. I have now written to them 5 times asking about these charges and have not received a reply whatsoever. So I do not even know what the charges are for. I suspect it has to do with the damages but I was told that I would not be charged for those damages. Since they do not answer I do not know what to think. I have gone to my bank about this issue and hopefully they will be able to get my money back.
I would recommend finding a different place to rent from. It would be worth a little extra for better service and not getting unauthorized and unexplained charges to your account.
