I’m done with staying in youth hostels (unless I’m desperate) from travelling and my uni days and blah de blah – so finding a decent place to stay at a decent price doesn’t come that easy to find…unless you happen to be in the right place at the right time, and discover a super-duper deal ... I found The European Hotel whilst browsing ‘budget hotel’ websites for London. I needed a room for an over night trip, but wasn’t prepared to pay over the odds in a fancy hotel, when I only needed somewhere to rest my head, yet reluctant to go down the hostel route. The European stood out for me for its price, but moreoever it’s location. It was centimetres away (well, on google maps – not in reality, that would be silly) from Kings Cross! ... ...lobby is nothing fancy. The European is classed as a Budget hotel and you can sort of tell that when you step in. It has a hybrid feel of a weird European resort and a basic B&B. Nice creamy wallpaper adorned with Latin(?). There is a small desk to your right with a glass window, where sits behind; your receptionist. Out of the few times we had to speak to reception, something had gone wrong (just my luck), for example they put us in a double room, ...

Advantages: Simple B+B Disadvantages: Room was by smokers courtyard
Having spent 4 years of rowing at university, my girlfriend and I had made some long term friends who we will probably be friends with for many years to come. At the back end of March every year, one week before the Oxford-Cambridge boat race an event is held on the Thames involving crews from across the country and it was decided to have a big meet up of 'old boys' after the race.
Originally, my girlfriend and I had planned on catching the train ... ...find a place to sleep. However, when we found that on that night trains would be replaced by a bus service, we decided that staying would be the better option after all.
Usually in a situation like this I would book a Travelodge or Travel Inn but a quick look online showed me that these places were either too expensive (considering we are trying to save for a new house at the minute), or the only rooms available were miles away from the function ...

Advantages: Cheap, Great Location Disadvantages: Everything Was Very Small, No Variety
...a holiday in London. The European hotel was the place where, after a lot of discussion and deliberation, we decided to book. I will aim to provide an opinion and experience to influence others to see if this sounds like the kind of place they would be prepared to stay in.
The internet has really helped these small, little known places compete for business. The last time I went to London, seven years ago, the only hotels that were known beforehand ... ...more choice. We booked the European hotel through a search engine which picked out hotels that matched your criteria. All we wanted was a cheap hotel with en-suite facilities, how often do you spend in your room when you are on holiday anyway? The European hotel was certainly cheap, we booked a triple en-suite room which included breakfast for only around £26 per night per person, for London prices this is really good. What we got for our money was ...

...This hotel in Brussels is situated about a five minute walk from the Grande Place where most of the restaurants, bars and souvenir shops are situated for tourists. The metro is just outside the door which means that you don't have to stay around the tourist area.Where the hotel is there are seven or eight restaurants - most of them selling seafood of some description - and of course ' moules et frites'. The hotel itself is part of a chain with hotels in France and London and other European cities. I went with a college group as part of a trip to the European Parliament Buildings and NATO so we had a reduced group booking which was very reasonable. The room I shared had a double bed in one room, and a sofa bed which converted into two beds in the sitting room. The rooms were fully equipped with television, kitchen area, sheets, phone...

Google searches for Asturias hotels led me to the Tryp Hotel in Oviedo, and for reasons later explained, I booked.
Discovery number one, thanks to the internet.
2 Booking The Tryp Hotel.
"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*"*
I had some research to do next, before booking.
What was the hotel like, where was it situated, how much would it cost, could I trust it with a booking, - you can imagine, the questions going through my mind.
Online, I discovered that the Tryp Hotel in Oviedo is part of the Sol Melia group of hotels. It is a chain that figures quite a lot in Spain, and USA, in various European countries, in Africa and Asia but with only one hotel in UK - The White House in London. The hotels seem to be mostly in the 4 - 5 * categories
In fact, I was beginning to feel a bit of an ignoramus, as I discovered this is the biggest hotel...

Advantages: Shopping, Drinking and Shopping Disadvantages: Same problems any city has!
...During a conversation with a London couple recently, they had said they like to spend odd weekends in different parts of England between their main holidays. We started to discuss the various places around England like York and Harrogate among other places. When I mentioned Leeds, they were a bit surprised. Then my husband and I decided to "educate" these Londoners. After that I thought, "Hmmmm..... I wonder who else would like to know about Leeds?"
According to the Conde Nast Traveller- the City of Leeds has been voted the UK's favourite city. The Yorkshire city left London trailing. The Lonely Planet guide recently dubbed Leeds the "Knightsbridge of the North".
~History~
Leeds began as a Saxon village. The little town probably had a population of around 1,000 people. In the 16th century things began to change. It became...

I'm a big fan of Ibis hotels and stay in them for both business and pleasure. I had, however, read a bad opinion of the London Euston branch, so when I found myself needing to stay in Euston the other night it was with slight trepidation that I booked... more
Basically, if you're considering staying here, you probably have a small budget. If this is the case, I can reccommend it as it is great value for money. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms are basic yet clean, and the breakfast is more
