I am a recent convert to Eurotunnel I have to admit. The thought of driving across to France never really appealed until I bought tickets for the rugby world cup this year and had to make 6 seperate trips to Paris.
Eurostar had hugely racked up their prices so we decided to look at Eurotunnel. They are incredibly good value. We paid between £45 and £140 return for a car on the service. This was booking on the website and well in advance as it can get a lot more expensive if you leave it too late. Those who only decided to go to Paris last week paid up to £300 return for a journey we had paid £48 for. Top tip is to book in advance if you can. All prices are per car with no extra charges for passengers.Check in
This is really easy. Make sure that you print out your booking confirmation and bring it with you to the terminal. Stop at one of the check in gates (in your car). These will either be manned or automatic. The automatic check in was very easy - you just type in your booking number, choose the time that you want to go - if you book for one time don't worry if you turn up early - they can often fit you on an earlier train.
Terminal
This has good facilities:
A decidedly average coffee bar serving bad coffee and sandwiches.
A newsagent
Toilets
Telephones
Money exchange
Duty free shop
Boarding
When you check in you are given a letter to hang off the mirror in your car. You wait in the terminal until this letter is called then you head to your car.
There will be a cusory glance at your passport and the vehicle door handles may be dusted for explosives (yes really).
That done you drive onto the train. Make sure you leave your car in first gear or park for automatics and the windows half down.Travel time
25 minutes
How easy and stress free is that?
Just remember to drive on the other side of the road!
