One of the best excursions offered by Tour operators in the Orlando area is the FULL DAY excursion to the Everglades National Park which includes a ride on an airboat, a show featuring Aligators and an afternoon and early evening at Marco Island on the Gulf of Mexico before the long drive back to Orlando via St Petersburg..
This is one hect of a long day out it starts around 0600 and ends about midnight, its an absolute must for non car drivers, we hesitated the first time we went to Florida but decided to take advantage of it the following year.
We stopped en route at a Macdonalds for brunch prior to arriving in the Everglades for Lunch and the Airboat ride, now at this pont it doesn't matter whether you do this excursion or another but...YA CAN'T come to Florida and not go on an airboat ride !! we had a great time and the theme tune of Miami Vice was on everyones lips as we sped around the swamps dodging the gators..anyway after the airboat ride we had a drink then went over to the show which featured a ranger and an Aligator..it was a bit of fun and I ended up holding a Python around my neck..
After this I we boarded the bus and drove to Marco Island wher we parked in the Grounds of the Marco Island Mariot Hotel..we were given a voucher towards the cost of a meal there and we were able to enjoy the facilities of the Hotel for the duration, we had a sea shell collecting game on the beach and then went for a swim...I couldn't believe the temperature of the sea water ( Gulf of Mexico) around 82F it was like getting into a bath..
We then cleaned up changed and went into the Mariot for a meal ( NOT CHEAP!! beware) however it was a superb meal and we watched the sun go down over the Gulf before dashing back to the coach for the journey back to Orlando..
This is an excellent excursion and despite being a long day out it is most certainly one that you'll never forget for a long time..

Useful review. I went to the Everglades last year and going again V.soon....On the Airboat ride what's surprising is when the guide cuts the fan to stop the airboat ..to gives his talk about the gators,... how low-down in the water you are to the gators...probably explains why on the pre-Airboat briefing..they say to keep all your hands and limbs in the boat !
