I visited the Ewington on business in 2001. There were seven of us altogether - myself and my husband and five other staff members - both men and women. My husband was the designated driver for the weekend trip though he wasn't employed by the company I worked for. He was "employed" for the weekend only - his shortest ever job I think! We were given a variety of rooms depending on who was sharing with who. My husband and I had one of the larger suites on the top floor.
THE SUITE
Our suite was very large compared to many we have seen. It was decorated in a relaxing shade of green with a pattern of contrasting flowers in the bedding, chairs and curtains. The size of the room was approximately 20 feet by 15 feet
The bed was a large King size bed so we thought but on inspection it was two single beds pushed together. The bedding was singles sheets on the base with king size sheets for the top bedding, then blankets, then quilt and then coverlet. Plenty of cushions as well.
The bathroom was to the side of the bedroom area and comprised of a large bath, shower unit, basin and toilet and bidet. All lovely and clean - spotless actually. Fluffy towels were folded nicely and left next to the basin as well as various toiletries.
The bar area is attached to the restaurant and is comfortable and relaxing. This is a very quiet hotel to visit. Old style decoration helps give the impression that you could be somewhere with a lot of history.
The staff were brilliant and so friendly. They always made time to talk regardless of how busy they would be. The manager at the time made our stay even more enjoyable with Dinner at his table and in his company. Fantastic food though I cannot remember exactly what we had to eat. The drinks were flowing freely as well so memory was a bit hazy by the end of the weekend
The only problem is the location which is on the outskirts of the mani city centre. Not a lot of night life around and not too many shops. We went for a short walk before Dinner and were surprised at the contrast in the area. Around the hotel is beautiful Victorian style houses and greenery, a short 5 minute walk towards the city centre takes you into an area with boarded up shops and houses - strange location
I have to admit that if given the choice between The Ewington and a city centre hotel I would definitely choose The Ewington. The atmosphere is lovely, the food fantastic, the rooms are beautiful and the staff cannot do enough for you
Our room was the Big Bay window on the top floor in the picture below
