We flew from Gatwick to Malaga on 25th Jan on Excel airways 06:30am flight. I almost cancelled my holiday when the tickets arrived and i found out Excel were the airline, i was a bit apprehensive about the flight because i am a very nervous flyer and i had never heard of Excel before.
I am so glad that i diddnt, this is a nice friendly airline. On boarding we were offered free Daily Mail newspapers which i thought was a nice idea. The leather seats really are comfy and there seemed to be so much legroom, usually on a charter plane your knees are touching your chest in minutes, we were able to stretch out - my fiance is over 6 feet tall.
The meal on the outbound flight was standard ropey airline breakfast, nice muffin and coffee though! the meal inbound was the nicest airline food i have ever had, Turkey in a tomatoe sauce with mashed potatoe & mixed veg and a lovely chocolate cake to follow.
The entertainment was not very good but it was only a two hour flight so i wouldnt expect much, there were cartoons though which kept the kiddies entertained.
I witnessed something on this airline that i have never seen before: a lady in the aisle next to me was flying for the first time, she looked terrified. before take off the purser sat next to her explaining all the different noises she could expect to hear and telling her not to worry, they sat her at the front so that the stewardesses were close by all the time. The purser checked on this lady throughout the flight and constantly reasurred her, that is the nicest thing i have seen on an aircraft.
The return flight was just as good, the staff on this flight were friendly and helpful and the purser was cracking jokes and putting everybody at ease.
If you have any doubts as to this airlines ability then please try them for yourself, there were no delays whatsoever even on the inbound flight and we flew back Saturday 1st Feb when Heathrow & Stanstead were closed due to the snow.
One thing i will say is that we pre-booked our seats (£8 per person) and it is well worth the money - we had three seats between the two of us on the return flight! If you are tall you can book 'Extra Legroom' Seats for £30.
We paid £200 for a 7 night all inclusive deal so i can only assume that the flights would have been about £100.
I am going to Cyprus in the summer and i will definitley be flying with Excel.
