SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT I’m only going to write a little bit about Singapore International. Firstly because this is the Colombo category and secondly because my memories of this place are a little rusty and I don’t want to start dishing out false information to you. Here goes… Welcome to Changi... This airport is maintained very well; very clean indeed. There are always people around polishing the floor or doing something which will seem incredibly pointless. If you’re bored, then you can always sit down at one of the television points for entertainment. ...Sri Lanka is often described as the world's most beautiful island, and I agree totally. Its has palm-fringed beaches, tea plantations, paddy fields, cool hill stations and thick jungle. But the cultural attractions are also highlights. Anuradhapura, with its huge buddhist shrines, Sirigaya, a rock fortress which dominates the surrounding jungle, and the tranquil lakeside town of Kandy are all worth the effort to visit. There are signs the civil war is easing. Fighting is largely confined to the north and east of the island, but there have been rare bomb attacks in Colombo and Kandy. Be aware of the situation, but don't let fear spoil your holiday - you are as safe here as you are in the UK. Hotels are simple and entertainment and watersports are limited. Advantages: Relatively modern, decent facilities, reasonably clean
Disadvantages: Chaotic traffic, little night-life

...and Crescat Boulevard malls. Colombo has of late also been fortunate (?) to attract the usual American fast-food chains. You can therefore indulge yourself at Mcdonalds's, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Domino's Pizza to your heart's content. If you're feeling more adventurous, Colombo has numerous fine restaurants, with the Duplication Road in Colombo 3/4 having a very good selection. As it turns out, you could probably find very good restaurants serving food from the major cuisines of the world, but good quality Sri Lankan food is often hard to find. The night-life in the city is confined mainly to the night-clubs in the five-star hotels mentioned earlier. Apart from these and bars in the hotels themselves, there is very little by way of quality night-life, though a stroll along the sea-front on Galle Face Green is highly recommended!
