Excelsior Palace Hotel stands on a superb promontory of Taormina. It is bordered by the remains of a greco-roman walls, originally built by Andromacus in the year 374 b.C., so the hotel is still immersed into an atmosphere full of historic reminiscences ehanced by the ruins of an ancient tower and merlons of the walls. The opulence of its sicilian garden covering the extremity of the promontory overlooking the bay of Naxos constitutes a perfect setting for this architectonic jewel who faces mount Aetna. The view that guests may enjoy from the balconies of each room takes them ideally back to ancient times and makes them revive the sensation felt by travellers of the past who came to Taormina to enjoy the magic of a nature and a climate that make a paradise of this land. The hotel itself boats 100 Years of history but has always offered up to date facilities being always the chosen residence of V.I.P.S people of all the world as well as the center of a series of very important international events. To-day, as always, the house offer a warm welcome also due to a tradition typical of Taormina.
...As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The Grand HotelExcelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.
ARRIVAL/ LOCATION
If you book with Thompson as we did (though other tour operators go to the same location) flights go from Manchester Airport on a Friday morning, taking just over 2 and a half hours to get to Naples International Airport. From Naples the coastal resort of Amalfi is approximately...

Advantages: Stunning views, well located. Disadvantages: Poorly run, shabby and poorly maintained
...My wife and I returned on 09/09/2007, from a wonderful week in Taormina on the beautiful Island of Sicily.
A wonderful week marred by one thing - The Hotel Bristol Park!
We paid around £800 each for a weeks B & B at this establishment, provided through Thompsons. This Hotel passes itself off as a Four Star Hotel.
*** LOCATION ***
One of the greatest assets of this Hotel is its fabulous location. If you want a well located Hotel in Taormina, with great views of Mount Etna (the main reason we booked this Hotel), there won't be many better in Taormina. We had a room on the third floor with a 180 degree view of the sea, the town of Guarding Naxos below Taormina, and the town of Taormina itself. By far the most imposing part of the view though was Mount Etna - the view of this 10,000 feet active Volcano was magnificent. Most...

Advantages: Location - proximity to railway station Disadvantages: No Internet access in rooms, not wheelchair-friendly
...I stayed at the HotelExcelsior in Munich on a brief overnight stay following a business trip to Munich. The hotel had been recommended by the BayernLB, who I was visiting as part of the trip, and they'd been able to get me a very favourable rate - of EUR 118 for a night including breakfast which was a considerable saving over the rack rate for the hotel. It was particularly practical as the hotel was only a couple of hundred metres from the main railway station (Munich Hbf) which made it a good choice as I could drop my bags off on my way past on the way to the bank. I cose to check in at the same time - and despite the fact that my room was not ready, they were fine about this and had my luggage taken to my room as soon as it did become ready.
The hotel foyer was relatively small, with only a couple of reception desks...

The Palace Hotel in Buxton, Derbyshire, is an amazing hotel. It is an RAC 4* accredited hotel and my partner and I went on a 2 night leisure break there for Easter. We chose this particular hotel because it has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and more
