Adventurous Travel

Advantages: Wide choice of destinations, do all the hard organising, safe and convenient
Disadvantages: Can cut corners, pot luck with fellow travellers, possibly over priced

Exodus is a company with over 30 years experience in providing small group holidays and the range of holidays to choose from is immense. There are trips to over 90 countries, spanning every continent, including Antarctica, and the duration of trips can be from less than a week to several months. In the last five or six years i have booked two Exodus trips, one to Costa Rica and one to Thailand.

...brochure then Exodus produces a number of these which categorise the holidays as follows: Wlaking & Trekking, Cycling, Winter Activity, Polar Expeditions, Family Adventures, Discovery, Wildlife & Adventure. The last two categories would be suitable for those people not interested in any particular activity but rather are interested to explore a particular country or region. Children are allowed on holidays in the Family brochure but not the others.

Trekking in the Atlas Mountains

Advantages: Fully inclusive, friendly staff, good communication, good website, off the tourist trail
Disadvantages: More expensive than at first glance

...stumbling across an advert for Exodus in a magazine, I ended up booking a two week holiday with a friend to Marrakech and the High Atlas, after looking on Exodus'informative website. The site is well laid out, and allows for easy online payments with detailed information about the many trips they run. The biggest down side, is that the 'price from' stated doesn't include flights (fair enough, but they can add them for you if you wish), but also didn't ...
...responsibility was the fact that Exodus sent a letter to us after the Casablanca bombings, explaining that the trip was still on, but they were monitoring the situation, which at least put our minds at rest that they weren't canceling or anything. We were not due to meet the rest of the group (of 11)or any of the local guides until Marrakech, but ended up working out who was with us by the time we were waiting for our connecting flight in Casablanca. ...

You get what you pay for

Advantages: Very competitive price
Disadvantages: Very uncomfortable and slow travelling

...tour of South America. The Exodus 9 week Cordillera trip sounded great, was a very good price and the right time of year. The trip itinerary shows roughly where you’ll go for the 9 weeks – start in Quito, Ecuador, travel to Peru, do the Inca Trail, visit Lake Titicaca, see the Salt Plains in Bolivia, then travel down the continent alternating between sights in Chile and Argentina before reaching Ushuaia. An enormous route which the brochure warns ...
...downside of the trip. Although Exodus argues the low seats give you more viewability through the windows, our driving days were usually at least 10 hours long (and you drive once every 3-4 days). Sitting on a 2 inch foam cushion for up to 12 hours at a time for 3 days each week was very uncomfortable and no headrest meant it was very difficult to sleep on the journeys. The driving days became something most of us dreaded and didn’t enjoy very much. ...

Best fortnight of my life

Advantages: well organised and great fun
Disadvantages: Expensive

I booked this trip with exodus inorder to relax after a long summer on my medical elective. Relaxing it was not, but it was an amazing experience, great fun and in a way relaxing. Expensive at £1200 for only a couple of weeks. There was a group of 12 of us and we were well looked after by numerous guides. There was a slight lack of freedome as our days were very full. The accomodation and food was all included, food bad accomodation extremely good. ...

We were also introduced to a few truck rules incuding tidying etc though most importantly no.11 this is a truck, NOT a bus! calling it a bus was one way of making our main driver crazy!! Get away from here!

Advantages: all inclusive, easy to understand, cheap
Disadvantages: only travel at set dates, you may be stuck with people you don't like

I have travelled previously on my own by booking a flight to the US and travelling around the US and Canada. While I was planning this I looked at a lot of adventure package holidays but none of them were waht I was looking for. I have since discovered Exodus. A travel company which arranges treks, biking, adventure and overland holidays to europe, asia, america and africa. The brochures are easy to read and the prices include flights, food and accomodations ...

Should be called Gulp Air

Advantages: Hmm, can't think of any
Disadvantages: Too many stops, long connections, cramped seats, no air

I have flown Gulf for three separate holidays - twice to India and once to Sri Lanka and have been avoiding them for the last 5 years now. My husband calls them 'Gulp Air' because there never seems to be enough oxygen in the cabin. Gulf are the used by many of the 'Adventure' travel companies - e.g. Exodus, Explore and the Adventure Company. Personally, I like my adventure on the ground and not in the air. Why do these companies use them? - easy answer, they are cheap and they go to a lot of the destinations on the 'adventure' trail - albeit via half the Middle East. However, my advice is that if you are willing to shop around and book early, you can do as well or better with - forgive the phrase - a 'proper airline' like BA or Virgin. For example, for my last Indian holiday I flew BA to Chennai (Madras in old money!) for less than ...

One of the world's best hotels - in Delhi!

Advantages: A landmark hotel
Disadvantages: It's a long way from home

Before we start, a warning. This is a long review - you might want to go and get a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits before you start reading. I got a bit carried away. Are we ready? OK, let's go and visit one of the world's classic hotels. Background to our visit ******************* Back in February I placed a booking with Exodus (an 'adventure travel' company) for a trip to Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas with a stay in Delhi at either end of visit. I'd rejected the flight inclusive option (because it used Gulf Air) and splashed out many years worth of Virgin Flying Club 'miles' on two economy tickets for my husband and myself. I love Delhi and I wanted some extra time to see a couple of the museums and monuments so I booked the flights a day early on the way out and a day late on the way back. Consequently I needed to find ...

An easy Leh? Don't pull my Yak-Tail

Advantages: Big rooms, hot water, lots of character
Disadvantages: Can be cold at night

affectionately as 'Little Tibet'. That's enough - there'll be more info in my other reviews but that's plenty for a hotel review. Why were we in Leh? ************************ My husband and I went to Ladakh in June this year and, as part of a package trip with Exodus, one of the UK-based adventure tourism specialists. We were going for a fairly easy four day trek and needed to spend a few days acclimatising to the altitude before we started to walk. Exodus had booked us into the Hotel Yak Tail on Fort Road in Leh for three nights at the beginning of our trip and another night after we'd been camping. Where is the Yak Tail? ************************** The hotel is on Fort Road in central Leh and claims to be the oldest hotel in the city. It's tucked between a rug shop and a bureau de change, just opposite a little arcade where you can ...
