When --------- We (Nicola, Vicki and myself) stayed at the Express by Holiday Inn: Earls Court on 03 October for one night.
Why ------- We had tickets to Wicked and wanted a hotel close to the Apollo Victoria theatre (it was only a couple of tube stops).
How Much -------------- We paid £119.00 for one night in a "triple" room. We booked this directly with Holiday Inn, because I am a priority club member, we did try to get travel agent discount, but we had no luck!
First Impression ----------------------- From the Holiday Inn's website we were told that West Kensington was the closest tube station to the hotel; it was a good ten minute walk, with luggage. Walking up to the hotel you notice that it looks like quite a new property, and as soon as you enter the lobby/reception this is confirmed to you. Check-in was an absolute breeze, we were handed our room key-cards, and after signing some paperwork, we made our way up to room 511. The hotel only has five floors which is quite nice, but what was a surprise was the glass elevator we had to take to reach the 5th floor (ooh for a minute, I through I was in Charlie and the chocolate factory).
The Room ---------------- We were quite impressed with our room, it was on the small side, but we were only staying the one night, it was tastefully decorated, and everything seemed to work perfectly well. We had one double bed and a pull out sofa bed, which was apparently very comfy. The bathroom was barely big enough to swing at cat in (although why you would want to swing a cat around in bathroom puzzles me), but again the bathroom facilities were good enough for the one night. We were also happy to see that we had enough mugs and tea/coffee sachets for the three of us. We were informed by a message on our TV that complementary breakfast would be served in the reception area tomorrow morning.
All rooms are equipped with Cable/satellite TV, with "pay per view" movies, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer (although I would have taken my own if I knew how slow this was).
Breakfast ------------- Now if you have read any of my other Ciao reviews, you'll know I am a fussy girl, but breakfast was amazing! I was quite happy with my 2 slices of toast, 2 weetabix and my mug of tea. We even took a couple of chocolate muffins for later on in the day!
Transportation -------------------- We were advised that the nearest train station was West Kensington, but we found that West Brompton was actually closer.
What's Nearby? ---------------------- Earls Court exhibition centre and arena was around the corner, The V & A and Natural History Museum were both under a mile away
Would I Stay Here Again --------------------------------- For an overnight in London, probably not, only because of the distance to the centre of London and the time it took on the tube. If I was staying in London for a week, I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends/family and Ciao members.
