Cost: 49 pounds per room - this includes continental breakfast.
This is everything you need if you are only after a nice basic room, somewhere to shower, and breakfast. You would be pushed to spend a whole day entertaining yourself in this hotel as there are only really rooms and a T.V. lounge. No outdoor play or anything.
Need to be out of room by 12 noon.
Credit cards accepted: Access, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Mastercard, Solo, Switch and Visas. Bank cheques to value of 50 pounds only when accompanied by cheque guarantee card.
Small toilet trained dogs are welcome!
My family stayed here overnight on a recent trip to Alton Towers. This modern red bricked building, very much like most Holiday Inn designs, is set on the outskirts of an Industrial Estate, and a fairly quiet location (no heavy traffic on a Saturday night or nightclubs). There is a Harvester situated next to the car park and also a spicy mexican restaurant. The restaurants are both within a minutes walking distance
from the hotel.
On entering the hotel, you come straight into the lobby. This has a large upright fridge to your right which is filled with sandwiches, chocolate bars, drinks, fruit and a wide range of snacks. Ahead of you is the reception desk, and to the left is a comfortable seating area with chairs, small tables, sofas and a T.V. An ideal place to chill out with a snack, read the paper (free Independants at reception desk), to chat with friends or to watch the T.V. It is pleasantly decorated.
There is also a rack full of leaflets on days out around the area, and a complimentary ice-machine on the ground floor by the vending machines. The vending machines offer a range of snacks, and hot and cold drinks. They are operated by your room card, and all expenses will be added to your bill. Room key can also be used in the bar - expenses added to your bill.
To the right of reception is a hallway with rooms going off it all along, stairs and a small lift. My family were on the third floor and my parents were on the first, as they had requested a smoking room. The whole of the first floor is allocated to smokers.
The reception is always staffed. There are also safety deposit boxes.
The rooms are all very similar inside. You enter into the large bedroom which has a double bed with white duvet cover and pillows. *** It may be a good idea to request extra pillows when you arrive, as you only get four per room ***. Reception can also supply duvets, blankets, irons and ironing boards. Over by the window there is also a sofa bed, ours was made up into another bed for the children, and a desk with T.V., tea and coffee making facilities. A full length mirror is attached to the wall with a hairdryer. There is a wardrobe with hangers and a cradle rack to put your suitcase on.
On entering the room, there is a bathroom to the left (or right depending on room). This is small, but very clean and new looking. There are white tiles on the floor, blue corner worktop with white sink, mirror above it. There is also a power shower, toilet, and plenty of towels.
They also supply you with two glasses, two flannels (these are like a dried babywipe, shower gel/shampoo all-in-one attached to wall of shower, and soap (attached to wall by sink). These are all addequate for the job they do, but if you're use to your own toiletries like conditioner, I would recommend bringing your own.
Next to the bed is a bedside table with a phone, (good for phoning people in another room), a pen and notebook.
The room is plainly decorated and very pleasant to stay in. Everything felt new and clean, and the bed was lovely to sleep in. Very comfortable.
They can also supply you with any toiletries that you have forgotten such as combs, shaving cream, razors, sanitary items, toothbrushes and toothpaste are available free from reception.
They offer in-house movies daily, you can also pay for extras. If you have a message, if will be displayed on your T.V. screen. You need to press MENU on remote control. You can also used the MENU button on the T.V. for a wake-up service.
Baby cots are limited, but available from reception, and there are baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet on the ground floor.
A bar in next to the Great Room.
Reception will also accept incoming faxes for business use.
You can connect a laptop to the designated BT phone sockets. Dial 9 for an outside line.
In the car park CCTV cameras are in operation, but the hotel can't accept any responsibility for damage to vehicles.
If you display a Do Not Disturb sign, they will respect your privacy, but will check the room once during 24 hours for safety reasons.
They can do a laundry service and dry cleaning for you. You need to ask for a bag from reception. The dry cleaning prices range from 4.30 for a tie, skirts 7.20, trousers 7.90, coats 14.40, 2 piece suits 14.50, and many more.
Laundry items range from hankies 1.80, socks 2.15, bras 3.00, shirts 4.00, underwear 1.80 (I thought this would be more!), tracksuits 11.50, and many more.
In the morning we went down to breakfast. This is from 6.30-9.30am Monday to Friday, and 7.00-10.00 Saturday and Sunday. The breakfast is complimentary and your allowed to help yourself to as much as you want. This is situated in the Great Room, which is to the left of reception. There was a large variety of individually boxed breakfast cereal, tea, coffee, water, orange or grapefruit juice from vending machine, milk, yoghurt (four types including strawberry and a plain bio), croissants also available with chocolate, toast, bananas, pears, apples, prepared grapefruit in bowl, cheese, selection of jams, marmalade and marmite. We tried everything that was on offer between seven of us, and there was no complaints. Everything was fresh and well laid out. No one went away with an empty stomach.
This hotel supplied us with everything and more for an overnights stay. A very comfortable and delightful time was had by all. Would definately recommend this hotel if you need somewhere to stay overnight and a breakfast in the morning. It is standard and basic, but very clean and nicely decorated. Everything you need just for overnight an stay. Value for money!
